Over 40 & TTC anyone in my boat???

Hi Everyone,

I am 44 this year and am TTC, I got married back in 2012 to my DH... We had a MC back in 2011.

I have 2 daughters for my previous married aged 20 & 16 with we love dearly.

I had been on the POP Cerazette/Cerelle for about 2 years and have hear so horror stories about not having AF etc...

Well I had been one of the lucky ones so far, I came off POP Jan 29th 2014 & O on the 13th.
Then on 15dpo AF came.

I guess I had mixed feelings as we are TTC but was still happy that we are in the game.

Anyone in the same boat?

Please share your stories

I have noticed that several of you are able to determine when you ovulate. If I may ask- what kits/methods are you using? Do any of you have preferences of one over the other?

I am coming off of a year of using Depo-provera- my last shot was May 2014. That was when my husband and I decided that we might want to have kids, but we waited until November to actually start trying in order to give plenty of time for the chemicals to be out of my system. (I also used a cleansing herbal tea with Milk Thistle, Red Clover and Red Raspberry. Drinking that twice a day for 5 months was pretty yucky!)

My final day of AF should be tomorrow for this cycle, and according to the calculator next week should be fertile for me. I am taking prenatal vitamins with DHA, Green Tea capsules and a vitimin B supplement. Do you all have any other recommendations?

Thanks, and best of luck ladies!!!

Cupcakefaerie, I use opks. I buy the cheapies on amazon in bulk, so I can test multiple times a day when I get close. I also can tell by the signs my body gives me about ovulation like EWCM, I can usually feel ovulation itself, my breasts get sore towards the center when my estrogen is high which signals an LH surge is coming soon (as opposed to the soreness being near the underarms from progesterone). This month, I'm also doing BBT charting for the first time ever -- I have no clue what I'm doing, but at least it makes me FEEL like I'm being proactive! :)

What sort of supplements are you ladies taking? I just added Evening Primrose Oil and CoQ10 to my vitamin regime. Since I just started, I haven't noticed anything different yet, but I'm usually pretty sensitive to such things so if there IS a difference I will be able to tell pretty quickly. Added to my Prenatal Vitamin with DHA, B-complex and Green Tea I feel somewhat like a walking pill bottle in the morning!

Have any of you been taking supplements? Have they improved how you feel or made it worse?

I'm going in to what should be my fertile days now, but haven't had any signs of ovulation as of yet. Not going to mind that too much- we are moving in to our new house, and all the work has both my husband and me so worn out that sex isn't really a priority. But after this afternoon the rental should be clear and we should be done. Perhaps we'll feel up to a little "celebrating"!

I take B6 - seems to help lengthen my luteal phase (although I also do progesterone after ovulation for that as well).

Yeah me too..this month I have been taking B6 in with my pre-con vits. Last year it lengthened my LP and I think it has again this month.

Normally I would have ovulated today, but I haven't even had a positive opk yet.

Maybe we will be cycle buddies and its a good sign for all of us xx

Yaaaaay for cycle buddies!!!

I think I may have ovulated today. I felt some sharp snaps on the left side of my abdomen, about an inch and a half inwards from my hip bone towards my belly button. (Not really pain- more like when you poke yorself with a pin on accident.) On top of having egg white CM, I'm hopeful. I just wish the opk's I'd ordered would hurry up and get here so I could be certain! I may just stop at a drug store on the way home and grab a couple- higher price be darned.

Last night's rendevous wasn't quite successful- DH was exhausted and didn't "reach the finish line" so to speak. I feel kind of bad since I did. Perhaps tonight when I get home from work things will go better, as we won't be hauling a bunch of heavy boxes before getting amorous.

Good luck girls!

Hello ladies! It's been awhile, but I keep checking in to see how everyone is doing. Welcome Cupcake!

Well... had a birthday last month and now I'm 46. LOL We've been trying on our own since last March with no luck. Darn it. We had a consult back in November with a specialist, but due to lack of vacation at the end of the year we didn't move forward. So I called again and they wanted me to go in for another consult! AGH! The doctor kind of gave me a hard time about waiting so long because 'time is fleeting', but really... I do like him and I get it. Sooo if AF arrives on 3/23 then I'm off to try IUI with Gonal F injections. The blessing in all of this is my insurance pays for it except for the medicine. Up to 6 tries for insemination per lifetime and all ultrasounds. YIPPEE!! Although... I'm told the Gonal F is expensive.. Ca-Ching! So we shall see. Originallly my dh and I were going to try twice, but if they are paying for up to 6 then we may be able to do more! ATM - I'm taking a daily vitamin with Folic Acid, Royal Jelly, Maca, and baby aspirin. I'm also reading about our emotions and how much they can affect our fertility, etc. Trying meditation and lots of prayer to help with any stress. I am hopeful.
Much and prayers going out to everyone trying for their little blessing and to those who have succeeded.

Congratulations! I wish you the best of luck!

AF arrived a week early this last time for me, so here I go again. All in all I wasn't hugely disappointed- I know that this will take time especially since I'm coming off of Depo-Provera. I have started watching what I eat- trying to avoid things high in sugar and caffeine. (Alas, Vanilla Coke I must bid thee farewell!)

What I'm having the most difficulty with is actually getting down to the nitty gritty- so to speak. So far my husband and I have managed to have successful intercourse once each month. This will not a baby make! I'm not sure if it is just poor timing or what, but the universe seems to be at odds with us getting to have sex. Last month we were moving in to our new house- this month he has such bad hayfever that he can barely breathe. It doesn't help that he has trouble in the first place- add stress or any discomfort and you can just forget it right there.

So my ovulation is coming up, and he is currently down for the count. Maybe next month.....

Sending everyone good wishes and lots of luck! I hope to soon be reading that all of you have little bundles of joy on the way!

BabyAngelG, how wonderful that you have so many chances!! Best of luck to you! I'm also 46, but my insurance company pays for nada and my husband put the brakes on the IUIs since for us, they don't really improve my chances.

Cupcakefaerie, so sorry for your BFN. I hear ya on the timing front. Sometimes, we just can't get it together at the right time - there's a stomach bug going around or it snows 8 inches and he throws out his back shovelling or other fun stuff like that gets in our way. Good luck!!
