Looking for ladies in their 40's TTC

Hello :)
I was wondering if they are any ladies out there in their 40's ttc. Please add me as a friend and we can support each other along the way.
I'm trying for another child but have had a few losses along the way but not ready to give up just yet, not while I know they're still some eggs just waiting to be caught!
and to every single one of you out there!

Sydney, from what I understand that is hostile cm. I know that l-arginine is a vitamin supplement that is suppose to help with cm. I am taking that and it is in the fertilecm that you can buy. Also cough syrup is suppose to help.

Thanks Angelgirl,

After reading your reply I googled that supplement and wrote down a few ingredients that are supposed to help.

I'm seeing my fertility doctor this afternoon. Usually it takes ages to get an appointment, but she had a cancellation.

I'm going to take a list of questions with me.

Such as, how am I supposed to get pregnant if I have thick creamy CM when I ovulate? What can I do to fix the CM?

I'm going to ask about IUI. I'm not sure if it's right for us, as everything I've read indicates it is used when the sperm isn't doing what it's supposed to do. My DP had the sperm test about a month ago and his little swimmers are just about perfect! However, if my CM is stopping it reaching the egg, perhaps it will work?

I have so many questions for the Doctor. Another one I'm curious about - I keep reading that even a healthy couple in their 20s can take up to six months to conceive, that each month there's only a 25 per cent chance of falling pregnant.

If that's the case, how do people get pregnant their first go? How do people get pregnant from one night stands?

It's all so damn complicated!

Last night we did the BD because I had full ferning again on the Maybe Baby. Because I had thick CM, I got some pre-seed, put it in a medicine syringe and put it in me.

My DP was just shaking his head at me, saying I'm complicating everything!

Hopefully I'll feel a bit more enlightened after my appointment this afternoon.

Hi Ladies! It's been forever since I've been on here, but you have all been in my prayers!!

SydneyNat - I just went to a Reproductive Specialist yesterday and this is the analogy he used when discussing IUI. Say we are both runners with the exact same skill set and abilities, but I start at the start line, but he starts at the midpoint of the race? Granted he may twist an ankle or get hurt during the race, but in most cases he has a better chance of finishing stronger than I do. For what it's worth I thought it was a good example.

AFM - So... the specialist wants me to start Gonal F injections if I'm not pregnant this month. If I am that would be a great Thanksgiving present (my turkey baby! LOL), but if not we are doing the shots. Anyone had experience with these? I'm sure there are some who have, but I can't spend the time reviewing all of the past posts on here. LOL It's a long thread! The doctor told me that after 3 months (or before if I'm willing) we don't have success then it's onto IUI. Problem is my appointment was at 3:30 p.m. yesterday and they didn't call me back until 5:30 p.m. THEN the doctor didn't come into his office for another 20 minutes! How do they get away with that? My dh had to leave before the doctor got in there to go pick my son up from after care at school. YIKES!!!! I'm going to call the receptionist tomorrow to ask about appointment scheduling as I will have to use vacation time for all of them and can't spend my time waiting around. He said 3 - 4 ultrasound appointments with my shots!
Good luck to everyone here!

Good luck BabyAngelG, fingers crossed for you!

Well, my Doctor told me that my CM could indeed by playing a role in the sperm not meeting my egg. She also said there is absolutely nothing you can do to change your CM :-(

We discussed IUI and she said that will definitely get around that issue. I asked about ICSI, but that is for couples where the sperm is the issue. DP's test results were excellent!

Then we discussed IUI vs IVF. She told me I have 5% cumulative chance with IUI. That is, I have a 5% chance of falling pregnant with three attempts.

With IVF, she said I have a 5% chance first shot.

The cost overall is similar. We are SO lucky here in Australia. After the Medicare rebate, We'll be out of pocket $1,600 and change for an IUI cycle. With IVF we'll be out of pocket just under $5,000 for a cycle.

I asked her if they checked my fallopian tubes when I had a pelvic US a few months back to check my follicles. She said no, that I hadn't consented to that. To be honest, I don't even recall being asked. If I was asked, I definitely would have consented.

I ovulated yesterday. If I'm not pregnant this month, I am going in to have my tubes looked at.

Looking at the form I need to take with me, my Doctor has written "check tubal patency". She said they flush the tubes with water to make sure they are not blocked. She said this is a good thing to have done in any case.

So that's where we are at. Tubal flush, then IUI.

I'm starting to wonder if my acupuncturist is doing any good at all. I'm tying to keep the faith - after all, he did help my cousin who had fertility issues related to endometriosis. And when she sent her mother along, my aunt, he tod her he couldn't help her with her neck issues (she needed surgery), so at least he was honest about what he can and can't do. He keeps telling me I'll get pregnant!

My Doctor told me a few months ago that I absolutely have to take Vitamin D. Now that we are almost in summer, I go for a walk every day in my lunch break. I stopped taking my Vit because I thought if you got 15 minutes of sun a day you didn't need a supplement. She emphatically told me no, I need to take the supplement as well!

Sorry for the long post! I hope you are all well and moving along this journey as well as possible xox

Sydneynat I am so glad your dr visit went well. Seriously check into that fertile cm supplement. I noticed a huge difference when i take it. Also, lots and lots of water.

I will Angelgirldel.

My Doctor totally disregarded it when I told her about it, saying there is absolutely nothing one can do to improve CM, but I'm going to give it a go anyway. That could possibly be the only thing standing between me and my baby!

Hi Ladies,

Great to see everyone learning about the science of the process! Seriously, so many pieces have to come together, it's great to learn about what you can do (or bypass) to get to the end game. I think it's great to have your tubes checked SydNat. I understand some undetected scarring can happen in some ladies that impacts further that proverbial "starting line" (great analogy).

Way to go gals! Take charge to ask the questions and learn more!

Someone mentioned getting an appointment due to a cancellation. The RE I went to is booked about six months in advance. It was only because I told their office they could call me anytime on short notice if they had a cancellation that I got in four months ahead of my appointment. Just sayin.

AFM, had another US with my Perinatologist this week and the twins are tracking well to each other. It was great to hear him say if TTS was to be an issue, he would (knock on wood) expected to see signs of it by now. WHEW, that was nice news. On the flip side, it looks like one of the boys has club feet, which isn't entirely a shocker as my husband had them very seriously himself. I'm more surprised that it is expressed in one twin and not the other.

There was one heart-stopping moment when the US tech intercepted the Dr and said there was something she "wanted to go over." Of course my husband & I start thinking the worst, and when we heard the clubfoot possibility, we must have looked strangely relieved.

So shits starting to get real here, kids (I can say this as the virtual matriarch of the team).

GOOD LUCK LADIES!

Baby AngelG I use/have used gonal f. It's really easy to inject (at the same time each day). You'll have estrogen levels checked every few days, then a vaginal US @ your appointment with the RE, & later that day day his/jet office will calm with your new doses for the next few days. You can message me if you have any questions.

Sydney, I agree with Angelgirdel on the Fertile CM. If that doesn't work, l arginine may work better. I had scanty cm until I tried both & L arginine worked best for me. I hope you catch that egg this month!

Busterdogs, glad you're babies are growing right along. Sorry about the clubfoot. Is it something that can be treated? xx

AFM, I'm just waiting for AF to appear. I'm at 12 dpo, have no symptoms except my usual migraine that I get before she arrives. So looks like I'll be going for a another IUI starting late next week.

We can do this ladies!
