Hi ladies! I'm new to this discussion and hoping I can jump into your supportive group. I just started the 'IUI with Gonal F injections' process early this month to a BFN result. Just went in for another baseline ultrasound on Monday and they found a cyst. Lovely. So I have to wait or rather 'natural' trying for one month. I asked the specialist about what caused the cyst and his reply was..' just being a woman'. However, I am seeing that it could be caused by my injections. Anyone have experience with this? All testing and health for myself and DH looks great on paper, however I am 46 years old and trying for #2... so I know it more than likely has to do with egg quality/quantity. I had two follicles ready this past IUI and I didn't know if that was normal or not?
to you all!

Welcome, BabyAngelG!

The cyst has nothing to do with your age. It is probably caused by a follicle that wasn't mature at the time of trigger shot (if you did one) or ovulation, and missed the memo that it has missed it's shot and continued to grow. Very common, especially with injectibles. They usually resolve after another cycle - sometimes a week or two of birth control pills to starve them of hormones shrinks them away. They're only a hindrance if they're functional cysts (meaning they're producing hormones) which I'm assuming yours is since your doctor is having you wait until it resolves. Although the wait sucks, especially at our age (trust me, I KNOW!!), better to wait than waste all that money on a cycle that won't work because the cyst snatches up all your FSH.

Good luck!

Welcome BabyAngel--I'm not sure about your situation, I've never done IUI with Gonal F injections. But I've heard that cysts can develop for a variety of reasons--wouldn't say necessarily related to your age. I'm not sure if 2 follicles is what you'd expect to see? I'd say, likely?

Basia--Thanks! Yes, our Dr has recommended IVF after this round of IUI. We will have to begin saving. I have a really wealthy Grandmother that basically goes on lavish trips, has 3 properties, you get the idea. We (my family) and I were hoping she may offer to "gift" us some money to help, but I tried to explain our situation to her, and she said "well, if Celine Dion did it, so can you", and promptly shut the conversation down. Haha I'm laughing at the ignorance of that comment, but hoping maybe...with a bit more time my mom and convince her to help a granddaughter out! Otherwise, we'll have to save! And 2-weeks!! That's so exciting--what a much-deserved break :)

LS--Thank for that encouragement. It's encouraging to hear about stories similar to ours that have happy endings. Especially when it seems that there is disappointment after disappointment. I think we're going to move on to IVF. My DH sperm count was low just the one time, but because of my situation they are saying our chances of IUI are not great.

Oh I didn't realize you had endo too. They think stage 3 or moderate. I haven't had the lap procedure yet. I have my pre-op consult in a couple week of weeks. They think I'm at least a 3 because I have an endometrioma on my ovary measuring 2cm. My Dr. doesnt think I'm "sick" enough to be a stage 4. I'm not sure if I will go ahead with the surgery though, I've been reading that for stage 3 or 4 it doesn't really increase pregnancy rates. Do you have other issues besides endo? And how did you find the surgery and recovery?

Cate I had my surgery on Monday and I was back at work on Thursday but the first see I was just sore so I you can take the whole week off just do that :)

Babyangel welcome! I hope the best for you! As about the cyst, i dont know much, all i know is what the other girls told you!
While, i am so sorry for the bfn! I am hoping next one will be the one!
Cate, sorry for your grandmother not being so helpful! You might ask her for a loan instead of a gift. As people are getting older they feel more usecure and they keep money for the unknown future. This is normal! If she thinks that she will have the money back, she might help you.

kethryes - Yeah...it may seem a bit presumptuous to ask for a gift of thousands of dollars eh? haha, but yeah...I felt that was our only option because with a loan I don't feel like we could pay it back in a timely way at all. I don't have a paid maternity leave, then with the costs of baby, childcare etc, I just didn't know that paying them back with any kind of schedule or timeline would be feasible. My mom was going to "plant" a seed and see. I don't feel right about just asking her for a gift or a loan, but we'll see :) And I hear ya about old people lol. If it wasn't for them having several properties, all over a million $--I would never even THINK of borrowing or accepting money--I just know how much they have, and I know how much we need it :S

While - We're going to think about IUI this month. For sure do the cycle monitoring and FSH injections. Just not sure about the actual insemination. Sorry to hear about your BFN. Do you feel like you're out with month? Many still get BFN on 11dpo.
