MammaD29: Clomid does have a tendency to make O later than normal. But having said that everybody is different.

I've been doing my research on clomid for a while now, and temping since 26th June. Next month I'll be going to the doctors and starting on clomid. My OH and I may no longer be actively TTC because of the distance apart we're going to be living for the remainder of the year, but we're still willing to try anything to help us achieve our baby dream.

Hi everyone. I am at a turning point in my fertility journey. Up until now my husband and I have been actively trying to conceive using BBT charting, watching cervical mucous and more recently OPKs too. We got pregnant in January, after trying for over a year, but heartbreakingly miscarried at 10 weeks. Ironically we had been booked in for a fertility specialist appointment before I got pregnant and so kept that appointment after the miscarriage. I was prescribed clomiphene, but decided to give myself another couple of cycles of normality (or try to get back to it) after my miscarriage. So now, 1 1/2 years into our TTC journey, I am 15dpo with spotting and a temperature drop, so it looks like my new cycle is just around the corner. Time to start the drug. It is a huge thing for me as it feels like I am admitting defeat on the one hand, but also taking a positive step forward on the other.

Now, I have read through hundreds and hundreds of posts on this forum before deciding to join up. I have seen a wealth of experience out there and I really don't know what to expect from taking this drug. Does everyone get symptoms, or do some people find they can just carry on as normal? Does it change the 2WW symptoms? I hate symptom spotting but can't help it. I will be on a fully monitored cycle at least the first time (blood tests and scans) but don't really know when I will need blood tests (other than day 2 and 21). I am not sure how this will impact my work, as scans I will have to take time off for, as I did when pregnant. Please give me any advice you have!! Thanks :)

Hi Shelob,
Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I understand where ur coming from. In fact I could for the first time in my life relate to a lot of ppl in this forum since anyone on this journey goes through phases like this at some point. After two perfectly normal pregnancies, I refused to believe I would have to resort to meds or even see a specialist and tried naturally for about a year before finally going in. Even though it was like you said admitting defeat, in the end it was a good decision and took a lot of pressure off me , Although another year down the road Im still waiting for that elusive BFP. As for clomid, I tried one cycle and I didnt have any of the symptoms I was dreading. It was just a normal cycle . Mood swings were there but its all part of the frustrations so I would have probably had it even off the drug. So every persons body is different, Hope for the best and praying ul get ur BFP soon..If your monitored I would recommend it, since it made the wait little less stressful rather than charting ourself. clomid tends to delay ovulation I have heard but I ovulated earlier so like I said every case is different and its better to know whats going on rather than play guessing games.

Shelob, This is my first month on Clomid and I have not had any negative side effects although so far I do not think it has helped me ovulate. It has actually cleared my skin up which has looked awful since I went off birth control 10 months ago and I seem to have more of an appetite which has also been a problem since going off the pill. I'm currently on day 20 and I haven't gotten a positive opk and I haven't gotten a rise in temp. Hoping that maybe I will in the next couple of days but thinking I may need a higher dose.

Thanks for the responses and support desp4Third and mommaD29. It is good to know that not too many side effects are likely. As for the mood swings, I seem to be having terrible ones at the moment as it is!

I am still playing the waiting game. 16 dpo has passed and still just spotting. It is frustrating as I don't think I am pregnant (will test in the morning if still no AF!) but this is a slightly longer LP than usual. It means if I am starting the clomid in a couple of days then the blood tests, scans, and of course ovulation will all be a few days later. Tricky as time off work will be likely. Still, we go through a lot to get pregnant don't we? It would be SOOO worth it!

Ok...so here we are. CD 30, 17dpo. The day I'm supposed to test. No AF (yay!) but BFN.

How frustrating. Now I just sit and wait. Boooo.

I had no side effects but like i said it did make me O late?!
i have just got AF and am excited to start a new cycle. i knew we didn't concieve the last one due to not being able to BD as on opposite shifts :0/ i tell ya its like planning a military operation to see eachother and then get in the mood etc kinda takes the fun out of it all!

MrsFlasche give it a day or 2 and test again!

Mrs. Flasche* sorry you are feeling out for the month. I hate when things don't go the way we anticipate and our bodies throw us a curve ball. Fingers still crossed for you though.

Well 11 dpo and I feel great. I am not having any symptoms like I did last month. My breasts are a little tender and ache a bit. I still have creamy white CM, and my cervix is high, firm, and closed. AF is due in 3 days. I am going to wait till Friday to take HPT. I did take OPK today just to see what happens and got a faint 2nd line but I know it doesn't really mean anything. Lol. This was my 2nd cycle on 50mg and I am thinking that if it doesn't work then I may push for a higher dose. Last month I had 1 follicle on 50mg. I know it only takes 1 but thay does not give us a good chance of conceiving.

I am very anxious right now and the sadness of worrying it didn't work yet again is setting in. I hate how this journey is an emotional rollercoaster. Good luck to everyone.

Well, AF came on VERY painfully at 3:30 this morning. I have never had cramping like I do now since my miscarriage. It makes getting AF a whole different event. Panadol, wheat bag and very little sleep. Sigh. So disappointing after having renewed hope from the lateness too. Still, the spotting had already decided me that I was not in luck. Mrs Flasche, I know how you feel!!! Must be even worse when you have actually tested :(

Sparkle0406 it worries me a little that you found ovulation was delayed from the clomid. The reason I have been put on it is to increase the number of cycles I have a year from ~9 to closer to 13. They seem to think that I will ovulate more regularly/earlier than what I have been. I can ovulate anywhere from cycle day 9 (like the one I did get pregnant) to cycle day 31. It is a real pain. Makes BDing very difficult to time. Yay for OPKs which I finally started using last month. Good thing you can get them in bulk for cheap though, as I use so many per cycle!

So, rang the fertility clinic and will get my clomid prescription today. Start taking it tomorrow. I am also feeling excited to start using it. It would be amazing if it works! Can't imagine having regular cycles again though.
