Strange type of spotting

My period is due on or before the 11th. while checking my cervix (yesterday) i noticed a small amount of blood near the cervix opening. I though my period would be on it's way, however the blood will not flow out. it just sits near the cervix mixed with a discharged. Today, I went to the restroom and a tiny amount of brown discharge was there when i wiped. is this considered spotting even though the blood isn't flowing out? I am going crazy ttc for 10 months now. i feel strange. like something doesn't feel right. but i also don't want to read too much into it any thoughts? is my period just slowly starting?
