About this symptom

Depression

As the hormones are flooding in during the first few weeks of pregnancy many women find their emotions are intense and unpredictable. Coupled with the difficult physical symptoms of early pregnancy and sheer exhaustion, it is not surprising that many women experience depression at this time. If you have a history of depression or if you are experiencing other stressful life events you may be more susceptible to depression during pregnancy. If you are experiencing prolonged feelings of sadness or hopelessness consult your healthcare provider to ensure you are able to care for yourself and your baby.
