40+ TTC in 2015

Hello,
I had to scroll through so many pages to find recent ladies who are TTC and decided to open a new thread for 2015. This should make it easier to find friends and buddies who are going through the same emotional roller coaster of TTC in their 40's.
Is it worth opening a new thread monthly to keep it current?
Would also like to wish everyone the best of luck, the more people that get a BFP gives the rest of us hope so please don't forget to post.

Hello 39andcounting, welcome to the over 40's club. I haven't told my family that I have been ttc as I was very ill during pregnancy with my ds. My family couldn't handle the stress of it so turned their backs on me until he was born. The women on here have been great, sometimes just being able to voice disappointment helps so much. We are here if you need to laugh, cry, scream, shout, moan, complain and even rant.
Wishing you early success

Hi Kerzie. It's terrible that your family was not supportive during that difficult time. So I totally agree with not sharing your ttc journey with them. My sister knows that we are trying but she isn't supportive. She thinks that I am crazy since my youngest is 17, so we just don't talk about the journey. It's much better when you have people that understand and support you.

I am currently 6dpo. The tortuous tww.

Sending baby dust to all the ladies on here!

Hi 39,
Some people just don't get it. I had my son at 38 and everyone considered me old then so I must be ancient at 43, lol. I don't feel like my family is complete and would love for my ds to have a sibling.
A good friend of mine fell pregnant at 40 and she had a son at 20 and a daughter at 11. She had so much more patience with her third child and made sure she enjoyed every second. She re trained as a nursery teacher once the wee one was in nursery because she enjoyed it so much. So don't ever let others influence you. You don't know where this journey will take you, only you know what is right.

Afm, I'm only cd12 and about to start extreme bd ing soon. I hate the 2ww too, it's emotional torture! Wish there were tests that told you "conception has happened" and "implantation has happened" , at least I would know what was going on. I'm also a poas addict so would have all the more sticks to play with
When are you going to start testing? Are you doing anything else to help your chances? Always interested in what steps people take to increase ttc. I'm on vitex, to correct a short luteal phase and a handful of vits a day.

I took Vitex for a few months last summer. I was spotting a week before AF so it really put a damper on the love making. The spotting has decreased so I guess the vitex worked. I have a 24 day cycle so not long at all. I normally O around cd10.

I take geritol vitamins (that's what helped get my ds), folic acid w/b12 and a natural thyroid supplement. My naturopathic doctor said my body temperature is too low so the supplement is helping that. My regular doctor has never diagnosed me with a thyroid issue but I know that I have a low grade issue.

I recently started taking DHEA, COQ10, PQQ. I just learned that eating pineapple core is supposed to help with implantation, so I am doing that. It may be too late for this month. I was planning to see a specialist to discuss clomid but I just read that it's linked to autism. I am also following the moon cycles to help with conception.
Sorry for the long response...

Hi, again ????
A few of the girls here have low bbt, including me. Trying different things to get it up, will let you know if anything works. My thyroid function fluctuates, can I ask what you are doing to keep yours under control? Could that be why my bbt is low?
Can I ask about the moon cycles? I love hearing about alternative stuff and let's face it, it won't hurt to try.
I read about the pineapple core too but unfortunately every time I tried it I got the worst indigestion that sent shooting pains through my shoulder and down my arm. Thankfully rennie worked a treat and I take selenium instead now.
I have been taking dhea for a couple of months now and thankfully I haven't had any noticeable side effects. I take a 25mg tablet in the morn and one at bed, read up on studies and 50mg a day worked equally as well as 75mg yet any lower or higher can have adverse effects on your eggs. Everyone is different though, how are you taking it?
You mentioned clomid can cause autism, why haven't I heard about this? How scary. Do you have a link I can follow?
Really nice to talk to someone, the girls here have been quiet since Christmas. Hope you are all ok xxxx

Where my girls at??

There is a doctor who discovered the link between low temps and the thyroid.
I use his supplement. Lots of info on his website. I was having most of the symptoms he described. http://www.wilsonssyndrome.com/

I read that it's more like to conceive during the new moon or your lunar moon phase. You have to look up what the moon phase was when you were born and then try to conceive during that same phase. I will have to try to find the website.

Good info on the DHEA. I guess I am not taking enough since I only take 25mg a day. I am really getting tired of all the pill popping, but I know that it's worth it.

Here is the link to the article on clomid.

Hi,
Thanks for the info, will be doing some more research on the clomid connection. I was thinking of trying clomid but will hold off and do some more research to see what the broader opinion is, my goodness what we have to do before making any decisions, lol.
Strangely I was going on a whole food diet this month to try bring my temp up but been up at the hospital getting extra strong antibiotics to get rid of this blasted infection. Had a bad flu that went to my chest and throat. Once I'm better I will be trying it.
The new moon idea might not be something I would think of but won't dismiss it, will have a look and see what I can find out about it. Thanks.
If I remember right you are now 8dpo? When are you going to start testing? I'm a bit of a poas addict and can never wait but I'm realistic too and don't fall apart when I get a bfn. I get so excited for other people though so please keep me updated

Hi all! Happy 2016. I hope you are having a great year so far.

Regarding the article linking clomid and autism, yes, I have read other studies that reflect this information as well. I think the important thing, well-stated in Time, is "Preterm delivery, low birth weight, twinning and maternal age are all associated with infertility treatment and they are all associated with the risk of autism. We need to understand how to tease these factors apart..."

I think it's chicken and egg. I know that as older moms to be we face higher risks in certain areas. And then you add in a higher likelihood of infertility + the drugs that treat infertility + the causes of infertility and it is hard to know what is what. For instance, male age has been linked to autism. Many of us have hubbies over 40 so... maybe us taking clomid would have nothing to do with autism, maybe it's just a correlation to do with age.

I do have one friend who took clomid, had an IUI and had twins. One has autism. Multiples can be associated with autism, perhaps it is pre-term birth, low birth weight, etc. So, in that case, if clomid caused twinning, it would be at fault.

It's just another thing to think about, I suppose. It worries me enough that I personally won't take clomid, but it's a personal decision. My sister works with autistic kids so that probably has something to do with my choice. I would feel terrible if I forced the issue and brought an unhappy child into the world. (But not all on the autism spectrum are unhappy, of course). And then, the stats linking fertility treatments and autism are still very low. Most people will be fine! :)

P.S. Kerzie: I cannot find the other forum where you asked me to post the article about natural IVF and natural IUI, http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/ivf-with-a-gentle-touch-2277983.html

AFM: CD 11. I got an earlier-than-expected "peak" yesterday so only managed to sneak in one BD. I am supposed to "O" today but my temps don't reflect that. Hmmm...

I don't know about anyone else but after 21 cycles of trying with not a single BFP, I am beginning to get this weird satisfaction simply from achieving the "perfect chart." I feel like an actual BFP will NEVER happen, and the only thing that calms me is getting everything right in the trying. So, I am sad about messing up this month. My DH is getting pretty "over" TTC these days. He's ready to give up and I don't blame him. I am sure it is both of us but as he is the one with the male factor diagnosis, and all looks normal for me on paper, he gets so depressed each month we don't conceive and feels it is his fault. I reassure him, but it is a lot of weight on a marriage.

Anyhoo... Sorry to go on. to all!

Hi ladies!

Franny thank you for your insight on clomid and the link on natural ivf.
I can definitely understand how you and your husband feel. Lots of people stop trying and that's when they get their BFP. Continue to believe that's it's possible and that one day you will get that BFP!

Kerzie in regards to the moon phase I also read that it's possible for you to spontaneously ovulate during the new moon if you are intimate. Interesting stuff...

I have already tested twice...lol. I can get a little anxious as well. I have the same symptoms every month. Cramping and sore boobs. I really feel like the cycle that I feel absolutely nothing will be my month. AF is due on the 23rd.
