40+ TTC in 2015

Hello,
I had to scroll through so many pages to find recent ladies who are TTC and decided to open a new thread for 2015. This should make it easier to find friends and buddies who are going through the same emotional roller coaster of TTC in their 40's.
Is it worth opening a new thread monthly to keep it current?
Would also like to wish everyone the best of luck, the more people that get a BFP gives the rest of us hope so please don't forget to post.
Baby dust to all ????

Hello,
Jandei, Everything will fall in place and hopefully you will be looking at that bfp soon. Can understand you not wanting to use clomid, let's hope the supplements work wonders for you. Some ladies use soy isoflavones which is a natural alternative to clomid but research it first to make sure it's right for you.

Fran, I laughed when I read about using the opk, I have done that before too! I bet most of us have. Let us know how the line progresses, it would be cool to know if it's a myth or not. I always thought you could get antibiotics from a pharmacy in America, didn't think you needed a prescription. I think anything is worth a shot and especially when it won't do any harm. Print out some stuff supporting your argument from the internet and go armed with it to the doctor. Surely they can't say no for something so simple? Or look for a doc that will sympathize and help you. Good luck in trying to be heard.

Mico, Good for you getting it all sorted at the beginning, that way you can relax until that bfp. You are so lucky to have a doctor that can relate from personal experience. You are right it is never anyone's fault, it's a journey where we have to overcome many obstacles together. A problem is just an answer waiting to be solved.

Any of you getting any hopeful or unusual symptoms? Good luck and baby dust everyone xxx

Kerzie,

In regard to your question, possibly a little unusual for me this this month, or at least confusing...

Ferility Friend just marked my chart "triphasic" which should be a good sign. BUT my ovulation date looks a little weird to me (and to them, which is why it is not a solid line.) I'm worried I may have actually ovulated on the date that says 5 or 6 DPO. When I switch the methods they use to calculate ovulation from "research" to advanced" that is what I get. Which would mean we totally messed up our BD dates. My initial post O temps were much lower than usual so I am a little suspect of what I have as an O date now.

Anyone care to weigh in? It's my 7th wedding anniversary today. I should be happy but sure wish I had good news. I had pictured a different life for us, by this point...

Can't get this to link but here is my chart:

Oh, wouldn't it be nice to be able to buy medication in the USA. No way. You usually have to see a specialist, pay $50 for the appointment even if you have insurance, and then sometimes $100+ for medication. It is just awful. I have seen elderly people bargaining with pharmacists to purchase partial prescriptions because it's all they can afford. Yes, I am from Canada and I am bitter about the healthcare here.

Anyway, thanks all!

I was part of this type of thread in 2014 when I got what I thought was my miracle.
Happiness lasted a few short weeks before a devastating loss.

I am now 41 and still not giving up on being a mom.
I just finished my third round of Letrozole and triggered this morning.
I made a lot of changes in my life and lost 10 pounds (30 pounds to go ) and this month I got a follicle over 17 which I have never had.
I had a 19,17 and a 15.
Sadly due to schedules we will only have one chance to have intercourse so praying again for a miracle.
I prayed for a follicle over 17 and that came true so hoping that this will work.
Wishing you all lots of Baby Dust.

Hi,
Fran, First happy anniversary sweetie! I've been married seven years too.
Looked at your chart I reckon you ovulated on CD8, do you always ovulate early? I tend to ovulate just before my temperature dips, I think cos we take our temp in the morn it could in reality have dipped up to 24hrs before. My opk showed positive two days before dip and day before dip was negative. Not sure I'm explaining well. Not sure if my body is just sluggish (just my luck) but I have to rely on opk' s, take my bbt just to check my temps rise.
Have you been taking lots of soy or soy iso? The early ovulation is a bit like the clomid effect.
Also if you were restless or hot on day 7, that would bring your cover line down. I agree it is a confusing chart and I'm just guessing, I'm def no expert at bbt. The second half is really interesting, if day 7 temp was "hot" then you could have a very obvious implantation dip. How exciting
I can't believe this is the month you decided not to buy any tests, lol. Let me know how your doing, any symptoms, and if you test. Keeping everything crossed.

Tiger, Sorry for your loss. Hat off to you on the weight loss, we all know how hard it is not to reach for comfort in food during stress and ttc can be so stressful.
Let's hope that your bd is timed to perfection after all it only takes once. I'm glad you feel strong enough to join us, welcome.

Afm, I am getting super crampy like af is about to come, so much that I keep going to the loo to check. I'm only 5dpo I hate having to wait.

Good luck and baby dust ladies, anyone testing soon?

Kerzie,

That's interesting that you ovulate before your temp dip. I have never heard of that, must make it tricky with temping. I always get a very strong temp dip (up to one full degree) on the day of or day before ovulation. I do not usually ovulate as early as this month although it has gotten earlier with old age - used to be a regular 28-day cycle with O on day 14, like clockwork. As of the past year it's changed to ovulation between day 11 and 13 with a luteal phase of 11 to 13 days, so I have 22-26 day cycles. I always wonder if the egg is "fully baked" when it comes out early?

Bad news, temp dip today to 97.9. I think AF is coming. Ah well. We have finally decided to do IUI for the next three cycles. I hope nothing gets in the way of it. I think it will be tricky to coordinate with work.

Good luck and baby dust to everyone!

Hi Franny,
No no no! To the temp dip, not the iui. Could it be due to putting feet out the covers? My temp took a dip today but my feet were out the bed and freezing, I seem to do that a lot. Take a look at my chart, def strange a o. My cm matches the opk o date, I went for something in the middle to be safe.

As you know I don't know anything about procedures, can you explain what happens. Do you have to medicate? What and when does everything happen? Do they "wash" the sperm to increase the quality? (I've heard that they can separate the good sperm and only use that, is that true?).
Sorry for all the questions but I think I would rather try this than ivf. Not only because of financial reasons but it sounds less invasive, but that could be because I don't know enough.
You seem to be like me, plan and concentrate on the next cycle when you think you are out to avoid the full impact of getting hurt.
Even if you want to msg me a long moan full of angry expletives I promise to only support, no judging.
Sending hugs

Forgot to ask, did you enjoy your anniversary? xx

Kerzie,

You're the best. Thank you so much, again, for the support!

You're chart is definitely a little hard to read, you are right. At first glance, I would put it at day 20 for ovulation, but that is 3 days past your OPK+ date, so that seems too late! I can see why you pushed it back. Can you try plugging the info into Fertility Friend and see what it says?

Do you know, is it possible as we get older that sometimes FSH might run high and we might get a false OPK+, or an OPK+ too early? Because our FSH and therefor LH might be higher than average, well before we ovulate? Just a weird guess - I have no facts for this! My chart had similar problems to yours. If I look at it, it seems like I might have O'd 5 days after my OPK+ which is odd, and would be the first time that happened. I wonder... Fertility friends has my O date before the OPK+, which also seems off. I guess you and I are both having unusual months.

I do, often, wonder about room temp and how that might affect temping. My apartment is very cold — much as I remember Scottish apartments to be! My husband travels a lot for work and when he's not in the bed I am colder. That's why I got a clearblue fertility monitor (even though it broke the bank $$$) because my temps seem unreliable. Sometimes I use a space heater, sometimes I don't. Etc.

As for IUI, I am nervously anticipating fighting with the specialist but I want to do a natural IUI. I am supposed to call on the first day of my next cycle and then I will go in for blood work and they will hear my idea! Usually you would use Clomid, to get more eggs in the hatch, and a trigger shot so that they can schedule the IUI and they know exactly when you have ovulated. I HOPE to not use any drugs or trigger. Because I seem to always ovulate, I plan to use temps plus my OPK and monitor. I think they will offer me some ultrasound too. I would like to go in for the IUI on the day of my peak. Usually (?!) the monitor is very reliable.

I have been reading more and more about natural IVF and IUI and it does seem that the one egg your body produces naturally is the best one. So, as I do ovulate, I don't see the point of using drugs. They would wash the sperm sample and do what is called a "swim up test" to get the best swimmers. Then they just put it in your uterus with a small tube. It's supposed to be painless. It gives the sperm a better shot at reaching the egg. I plan to BD around the date as well. It is covered (less a $50 co-pay per visit) so it could cost me maybe $300? Seems worth it, after all this time. Especially as our problem seem to be male factor. Anything to get his swimmers closer to the goal!

Maybe you might try it? My nurse, at my doctor's office, has been married 15 years and was not using any protection that whole time. She never once got pregnant. I don't know how many years/ if she timed things and used temps/OPKs but she was exasperated, and 41, so she tried IUI (with Clomid) and she got pregnant the first time. She is due in April.

Thank you so much for listening! Oh, and yes, I did have a wonderful anniversary! We went out for a nice dinner and my DH bought me a totally unexpected ring, which was so sweet. I had seen it in an antique mall over Christmas. Cool that you have been married 7 years as well. I think 7 is a lucky number.

Thank you Kerzie. I am very hopeful this month just trying to relax and be positive. I'm at 2dpo today so hopefully a full tww is ahead. Started pineapple today

I was wondering if any of you ladies can help. I bought B complex today (Nature Made Balanced B-100 Complex) It contains 400 mcg folic acid. My prescription prenatal already has 1000mcg. Do you think 1400 mcg is too much to take daily? From what I'm reading you are not supposed to take more than 1000mcg per day unless it's through a food source (kale, spinach etc)

Hope we all get BFPs this month :)
