They did the sperm washing for us. That is supposed to give you the "best" of the sample. Our IUI cycles were handled a bit differently, I took clomid day 3-7 and then did opk's and when I had a positive opk we would go in the next day. I would have liked the ultrasounds as it would have provided more information. Best of luck!!

You have to do sperm washing with IUI, semen can't go into the uterus. If you do ICI, you don't have to wash. Although the "washing" really is separating the wheat from the chaff to get you the best sperm for the job.

Oh, and IVF cost. Here, it's $7,500 plus meds for the basic IVF. If you also want ICSI, that's $1,800 more. If you also want Assisted Hatching, that's $1,200 more. Meds for me run about $7,000 a cycle, but I'm old.

Thanks, guys. I'm still waiting to hear. My friend with PCOS said for her, their IUI cycles ran 2500-3000. But I'm guessing I wouldn't need as many meds and or ultrasounds.

A couple other questions: Number of follicles. What general rules do you guys follow as far as when to go for it on number of follicles. Our RE mentioned 2-3 but I'm thinking I would not want to proceed if we had three. Triplets is not something I would prefer. I would be okay with twins.

Other question would be clomid - I get nervous using medication sometimes! Has anyone had anything weird happen with clomid? Or femara or something like that?

I had a few side effects from Clomid but nothing that would deter me from using it again. The first cycle they were definitely worse than the 2 subsequent cycles. I had really bad short term memory loss with the first cycle, then some headaches, vision changes and hot flashes. In the subsequent cycles it was just a few hot flashes. It also delayed my ovulation by a few days and lengthened my cycles. Which was okay considering I tend to O on day 10/11 on a natural cycle.

I never had any side effects with clomid or femara.

As far as how many follicles, in addition to how many babies you feel comfortable with carrying, you need to consider the reasons for your infertility and age. For example, if your issues are sperm count and you're under 35, 1-2 follicles seems perfect. However, if your issues are egg quality and/or you're over 35, 2-4 follicles might be right.

Ladies! Look at what I just found!! Its an at home IUI kit! I have no idea how effective it is but if you're looking for other, cheaper alternatives this may be it.

Hi girls, I am actuay surprised with the IUI costs you refer above! In Europe the costs are more resonable.

As about clomid, The first time I had it (some years ago) I experienced some visual disturbances (flashes, idols etc.). This time, I just had some depression.

Tomorrow I ll have my first scan in order to see when to have the IUI. I am not optimistic.

While - when I did one cycle of clomid I had hot-flashes but other then that I was feeling ok. I took it in the evening before I went to bed so I would not feel the side effects and that worked for me.
