Question

PLEASE explain the luteal phase...

AF arrives 30 days apart.
I'm expected to ovulate on MArch 1st.
AF usually stays for about 5 days.

What and how does the luteal phase fit into that? What exactly is it?

The leuteal phase is the time between your ovulation and the arrival of your period. Google it for more details, your body does a lot during that time, which is usually 14 days.

The leuteal phase is the time between ovulation and your period. Usually 14 days. When you ovulate the follicle turns into the corpus luteum which secretes progesterone until either the embryo is fertilised and implants and hcg is released or the lack of hcg signals that there is no baby and it's time for your period.
