What's the HSG test like? Should I take pain killers before?

Hi ladies, well today I am having an HSG test after TTC for over 3 years now my doctor is finally looking into why we can't conceive -yay :)
But I usually find just having a speculum inserted quite painful and the hospital has told me the HSG test lasts about half an hour :/
So if you've had one would you recommend taking painkillers before I go or foe afterwards and should I take a pad for bleeding/dye leaking?

I had one done, take pain meds before and take a pad because you will be leaking dye and possible spotting a bit. It didnt take mine half an hour, took more time waiting to get in then the test lol. But they dont rush you or anything and they go over everything step by step.

thanks starbird :) I am catching bus in half an hour and have just had 2 of my painkillers I use for hip pain haha I am a total Wuss!

I think it varies a lot from woman to woman.. For me it was extremely painful and also for the following two days it felt like bad period cramps so I would def. recommend painkillers. Thought ofcourse it's worth it! Good luck! :)
