37 yo TTC # 1 and looking for buddies...

Hi,

I am 37 years old and DH is 39. I am on CD 2 today. DH already has 2 from and previous marriage and I have always wanted to have 1 of my own, but waited for my Mr. Right. We got married 3 years ago on Memorial Day weekend. We have been trying now for over over a year. Back in Nov 2013 we went to see a Fertility Specialist that was very blunt but from what I understand is very good in his field. He made it very clear that my age a weight could be a factor but that it's still possible. DH had a SA done 5 months ago and they found an infection which caused low count and low motility. So he and I were both on antibiotics for 3 weeks. Had another SA done and it was all cleared up and his count normal. I have had an HSG done and all was clear 3 months ago. Doctor gave us 3 months to try on our own...sadly I am still not getting pregnant. So, Monday I go in for a Laparoscopy and I am so nervous. Praying the doc finds something and can fix whatever it is he finds. What I am mostly nervous about is that they don't find anything wrong.

Starting to feel alone in this journey...anyone else going through the same thing?

Lolo, it sounds like you think you might be 3 dpo at the latest, so you wouldn't be getting any pregnancy or implantation symptoms yet. If there's an embryo, it's still free-floating around (actually I think it's called a zygote at this stage but anyhoo). Hang in there - the tww is the worst.

As for your question - I've done two IUIs so far, a couple monitored cycles with various drug combos and a couple unmonitored cycles with progesterone. I'm also using Traditional Chines Medicine, which includes acupuncture, herbs and various other things and changes to diet etc. It's been pretty much a full time job this last 6 months.

NorthernBabyDream: Oh, I hear ya on the full time job part...lol...TTC is exhausting and stressful.

I know there wouldn't be any pregnancy symptoms this early. I am just hoping that they were possibly ovulation symptoms if anything. My temps were so up & down this month I was starting to get worried that it might've been an annovulatory month. I am really nervous about having the Lap done and hoping I get a BFP before then...but not holding my breath.

I do hope the acupuncture and herbs help.

FX'd!!!

Just checking back in on the site! I was 37 when I conceived. My DH has battled cancer. The chemo and radiation treatments left him with a low sperm count and and low normal sperm. After getting the results of his sperm analysis my OB said that we would have trouble conceiving naturally. We were given less than a 5% chance. I decided to try PreSeed and the Clearblue digital ovulation kit. Well right before we were scheduled to see an infertility specialist to find out if or what our options were, we found out we were pregnant. So I am sending baby dust vibes to you all!!!

Thank you so much for your post nicolew1976!!! It definitely gives me hope. How long were trying before you saw your BFP?

Well, just a quick update: I got 2 days early. Typical. I called the doctors office this morning to see if this will screw up the timing of my Lap Surgery coming up. Thankfully she said she didn't think so. She is going to send the doctor a note and if he disagrees she'll call me. But since I don't typically Peak until CD 13 I "should" be fine. I she is right. I am to start the OPK's a few days before just to be safe. I really wish this surgery wasn't based on CD's.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Well, AF I think has stopped spotting. And I am starting to get nervous again for the surgery coming up. It's starting to weigh on my mind. Maybe it's because it's less than a week away. I have had to stop taking my meds except for Clariton, Tylenol and Vitamin D. I feel like I shouldn't be nervous but I think the reason why is because we are going in blind. I have never been diagnosed with anything and now hopefully we will find out what the hold up is.

I think what terrifies me the most is that the doc is going to find something so bad he can't fix it. But at the same time I feel like if there was something that bad wouldn't I feel it ALL the time? I just want it done and over with.

Have a great day!

Good luck with the surgery, Lolo. I hope they do find something, because then it's something that can be fixed. I don't there's many things that they would find via laparoscopy (that is what you are having right?) that would be impossible to fix (assuming you've already had an HSG, ultrasounds and bloodwork done). Unfortunately, from what I've read, many people's infertility remains "unexplained".

Anyhow, try to relax and not worry about it. Hopefully you'll get some answers.

Thanks! I really hope and you are right. Yes, it is a Laparoscopy that I am having done. I have had an HSG done back in Feb and all was clear. Doc said I got an A+...lol. Bloodwork was done back in Nov. 2013...can't really recall what they tested for...lol. I know Thyroid and Prolactin was part of those tests. Haven't had an Ultrasound done. My doc is from what I have been told one of the best in his field...in our area anyhow. He canceled last month because his wife died...so sad. In some cases they can try to find another doctor to do the surgery but this doctor is one of those that doesn't trust other doctors to do it. Kinda like if you want to have it done right you gotta do it yourself types...I am the same way with lots of projects. I am glad he is that way. Makes me feel better. I am just getting nervous.

How are you doing?

I think it sounds like you have a great doctor, smart to stay with him. Most will just try to put you on drugs right away rather than try to figure out what the problem is. So, it's great that you have one that is willing to delve a little deeper.

I'm CD2 today and just trying to get my plans sorted for this cycle. Thinking we are going to have sperm frozen since my DH will be away alot and our schedules are crazy. This way I can get IUIs done without him, lol. One sample is good for 3 IUIs hopefully. Hoping to switch from Clomiphene to Puregon for ovarian stimulation. Really losing hope that treatments will work but trying to keep telling myself that I've only done 2 IUIs so far.

NorthernBabyDream: That is one of the reasons I stayed with this doctor. It seems he wants to get to the bottom of the problem but takes certain steps to get there. I don't think he is against the pills but he doesn't want to go that route until he knows it will work. Makes sense to me.

My DH's schedule is whacky too but luckily he is home for BD'ing. Just usually super tired. LOL! Sounds like a clever idea to have the sperm frozen. I am always amazed that that doesn't kill them off. The things doctors can do...lol.

I keep feeling like I am starting to lose hope but trying so hard to stick with it. My DH is so wonderful and supportive and keeps saying that we are not going to give up until the doctors can prove we can't get pregnant. I just wish time was on my side. I know you know how I feel.

The wait every month is sooo exhausting. The 2 weeks leading up to O'ing and then the TWW! I really it happens for us soon!

I truly hope your plans succeed! Are you doing another IUI this month as well?

Hope you have a great day!!!

Yup, planning to do an IUI if all goes well this cycle. I have to get the drugs today and start them, and DH has to do another blood test today. Sample collection would have to be tomorrow and then tomorrow he's flying off for a week. Craziness around here...
