Conceived with 1 ovary? How long did it take you?

I have only 1 ovary and 1 fallopian tube. I'd like to hear from women with a similar issue who have conceived, and how long did it take to conceive? Is it supposed to take longer than normal?

The ovary I have left has also been wedge resected, so I'd especially like to hear if anyone has conceived with 1 ovary that has been wedge resected.

Hello I am ttc number 3 And we have been trying for almost two years. We were referred to assisted fertility and both underwent various investigations. I have only just found out that I only have a left ovary. Concieved both my boys at the drop of a hat and I was taking contraceptive pill when I fell on with my eldest. We have also discovered my husband has low sperm count following gastric bypass surgery, so they are treating that as the primary cause of our problems rather than the single ovary. The ovary I do have is polycystic but it can clear itself up with good diet etc. As far as odds go in general for ttc in General they told me your odds are halved but that is based on only having half the eggs etc. I have a friend I chat to who only has one following treatment for ovarian cancer. She still fell pregnant naturally and has a boy now. The way I look at it , you only need one egg and one sperm so why not just one ovary!!

Thank you!! That's what I keep trying to tell myself, that you essentially only need 1 ovary and 1 sperm, but my doctor is urging me to see a fertility specialist already. Been TTC for 9 months, am 36. BUT I did already have HSG, hormone tests, ultrasound, and also sperm analysis. I just SOOO want to conceive naturally. I'm trying to decide how long to give it before I go, and I also wonder what treatment a specialist would recommend if there's no other cause for infertility aside from having 1 ovary.
I do feel hopeful when I hear about people conceiving easily with 1 ovary.
Were you born with only one?

I must have been! But literally only just found out this last month. We were referred to fertility after trying for 18 months had one of them dye test things where they inflate your uterus etc to check your tubes and look for polyps etc. all clear, painful I will admit but over quickly. Then some pelvic ultrasounds and my bmi is 35 so they thought they couldnt see the right ovary due to that but MRI concluded there was just the left hand side. Which in hindsight made sense as I always used to get ov pain on the left only. I don't know if its different in the UK with fertility treatment, but here money talks and everything is chargable. They have offered us ivf but one cycle costs around£ 6,000 and with there only being the one ovary to harvest eggs from, we would only have one shot at it. Plus my husband isn't keen on the artificial process. there is a part of the UK that offers ivf for free provided you donate some eggs at the same time, but that's quite invasive and I would only want to donate my eggs if I had completed my own family. If your cycles are regular to a Point where you can track them (I bought a digital ovulation monitor) and anatomically your normal apart from the one ovary and tube you have still got good chances, if u do have fertility investigations they will look at your follicles and look at the overall ovarian age and if your under 40 (I am approaching 34) your odds I think if its the same as here still around 50% as long as there is no other aspect of infertility in our case my husbands sperm quality. Having said that, we have two fine young boys from crap sperm and one ovary so we beat the odds there! Just try not to 'try' too hard, it puts real pressure on a couple if you let it take over so even though its easier said than done try and stay relaxed about things. You can always natter to me whenever u feeL like it xx
