Family Dr. or OBGYN????

Tomorrow is my first 10 week appt.; however, I scheduled 2... one w/ my family doctor and one with a OBGYN. I really could use some advice on which way to go. I love my family doctor, but hate her office help. Is it better to go w/ a specialist or am I going to offend my family doctor? Not sure iif I should cancel one of my appts or just go and see??? Advice needed... thanks!

Hi courtenay.
First of all, congratulations!
I would say definitely go with your ob/gyn. This is your precious baby and you want the best care, right? Your gp won't be offended and even if she was, your baby's wellbeing is more important than her feelings.
When I was pregnant I stuck with my gp. I found that getting hold of her was hard, and although she was concerned that my hcg levels weren't rising as quickly as they should be, she told me to carry on as normal and keep getting blood tests.
Eventually I got too worried and called my ob/gyn. He saw me right away, gave me a scan and put me on bed rest. He was appalled that I hadn't been referred to him at the first sign of trouble, and that I hadn't even been scanned even though i was a high risk patient.
Sadly, I lost that baby. I'm not saying the outcome would have been different if I had gone straight to my specialist in the first place, and I'm not saying your gp is as remiss as mine was, I'm just saying that maybe you shouldn't take the chance. Next time, the first call I make will be to my ob/gyn.
Good luck, and well done :)
