Question

Quick question about blood test

I am 11 weeks pregnant & today I had to get my first prenatal blood test done. The nurse took 5 tubes of my blood. Anyhow, when I looked at it my blood was sooo dark. A veryy dark red. Almost black, it was so dark. I thought blood was bright red? Why was my blood so dark? Good or bad?

Blood is bright red when it has high levels of oxygen in it, when it leaves your body the amount of oxygen in the blood decreases causing it to get darker. I think you are okay mine is like that anytime I have had blood taken and have had no issues so far :) Good luck with your pregnancy!!

Bright red blood is arterial blood (oxygenated blood leaving the heart for systemic circulation), the blood they take from u is venous blood (deoxygenated blood on its way back to the heart). Completely normal, no worries! =))
