Considering a breastfeeding hiatus in an attempt to get my period back!
I have been using opks and just recently temping to monitor the return of my ovulation post partem. My body must be gearing up for ovulation since I have gotten several positive opks in the past 3 months but no period and no positive hpts. I started temping to see if I'm ovulating, and so far they seem like false alarms still. I am considering stopping breastfeeding cold turkey because I heard a shock could bring back your periods. I would like to resume breastfeeding after my period returns, if possible (I have read all about relactation and am willing to make the sacrifice). Please let me know if you have been where I'm at, or how long it took for your period to return once you stopped breastfeeding completely. I only breastfeed about 3-4 times a day since solids were introduced, and my little guy is just over 7 months.

I completely understand your feeling of urgency to stop nursing. I am currently TTC #5. My little one was 9 months old last year in May when my cycles returned and were irregular for a while. I was weaning to a bottle and felt very torn and sad doing this because I would have liked to continue nursing longer. But because of my age I felt compelled to wean so we could try for another baby. I knew that I was sacrificing something very precious for a future hope. I struggled with this for weeks until I unexpectedly needed surgery. This event triggered the end of nursing. Oddly relieved we started TTC and are still trying. I know exactly how you feel right now. I have to say though that your period will return when your body is ready. This might even happen while you are still nursing. I would not go cold turkey and force the end of nursing abruptly. Gradually continue weaning and keep enjoying this special bond between you and your baby. Best wishes and the Lord's blessings.
