Question

Bacterial vaginosis causes miscarriage! I had no idea!

I have suffered recurrent miscarraiges..and i told my specialist that 'sometimes' I get a fishy smell and my miscariiage bleeding was exceptionally smelly on days 3+4. My specialist thinks it might be Bacterial Vaginosis that flares up periodically and tarvels up the vagina when I am pregnant. (I then assume that causes the body's defence mechanism to attack anything alien- including the pregnancy tissue). Opinions pls

BTW..I have no funny discharge or pain - but specialist thinks I may still have it as I may be asymptomatic most of the time.

That is interesting. I have never heard of that before. What else did the doctor say? Did they tell you how to handle it next time?

I myself had what seemed to be repeat yeast infections every month until I got pregnant, And just suffered a miscarriage 5 days ago at 19 weeks due to what my ob/gyn say's was a bv infection, She said many women can go on without having any symptoms while having an infection in the body.
I never had any symptoms the whole time I was pregnant until the day I started having contractions.
There has been a connection between bv and low birth weight and premature labor.
The infection caused preterm labor for me and my body expelled everything as a reaction to the infection.
Definitely something to be checked for and monitored regularly during any future pregnancies.

@Fireflies..I am so deeply sorry you had to have such a late m/c..
I will surely keep you updated on what my results are..shoudl be about 7 deys before I know. Today I am going to get acidophilus...supposed to be good for BV as well as the gut.

I am curious..did you get belly button pain in early preganncy - i got this a lot - before 8 wks..and I wondered whether there was some carzy link between getting BV and the pain.

How are they going to treat you ..my specailist has agreed that even if I get a negative test now - he would repeat if I got pregnant again..

I blew up at work yesterday..it's so painful...and you have to live with so much pain..I am sorry

Very interested to hear how your results went! I did have alot of pain behind my belly button at different weeks and never considered the two were related..definitely curious about it now. And as for treatment they gave me MetroGel Cream (Metronidazole)
My Ob/Gyn didn't seem too concerned so I'm going to check out a few others around to find one that will actively test me throughout my next pregnancy to make sure it hasn't returned.
Also I have heard Vagisil has an at home screening kit that tests for BV, and Rephresh Pro B (probiotic) does wonders for BV and Yeast so I will be investing in those during next pregnancy as well. Best wishes for your results.

My test came back clear..but I had no smell when I had the swab taken..perhaps it's possible I had it when pregnant but now don't have it..so not sure what to make of the clear result for future pregnancies..
