OK so my husband and I are trying for a baby for the past 18 months , so we have had three miscarriages, the most recent 8 weeks ago. well ive been diagnosed with pcos and im gutted. Ive put on so much weight from it over the past few years and this year while ttc ive lost 35 pounds. im feeling so bad tonight, a huge fat frump and so sad and a horrible feeling of worthlessness and failure. Taking metformin and its going fine and waiting to see specialist, anyone else been through this??

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I have PCOS also. It was such a huge kick to the (ever growing) gut. I was 20(6 years ago) when I was diagnosed, and hubby and I were TTCing our second child. My first pregnancy is actually what really flared it up. After she was born I could not lose weight, no matter what I did. It was so frustrating to put on like 40 lbs in a year. And, with the addition of another child three years ago, my weight went up more.

I think the worst time to get diagnosed is when you are TTC. Not just are you not getting pregnant, but now you have to cope with something like this.

Other than metformin, are they putting you on fertility medicine? If you have had three loses, you do know you ovulate, but meds can help the quality of the egg. Also, have they checked your hormone levels? High testosterone is common in PCOS, and can really affect things.

It took my two years to conceive my second. But it happened, and when it did it was soooo worth it. We are currently trying for number three, and even though it has only been 2 months, I am already on fertility medicine. That is the "good" thing about the diagnosis. You KNOW what you are up against.

Good luck, and many HUGS!

hey rockermama , thank you so much for your response , just logged in to forum , how are things going for you this month??

im doing ok now , still a bit bothered about the huge weight gain, i totally agree with you that it is so difficult to be diagnosed when your trying . i went to the docs years ago they told me to go on a diet ! .. i was broken hearted , but anyway the metformin has gone up to 2000mg a day and its working ive ovlated two out of the last three cycles so fingers crossed this month , Im 9dpo and am praying lol, sore boobs and increased cm so fingers crossed , ive to be put on progestrone next time i get pregnant from the day i find out , and im seeing the specialist in december , hes thinking about doing the dye test, but then they will prescribe clomid or some other ovulation inducing drugs so im hoping 2013 is my year :)

SO happy to head you have two little bambinos and i really hope the third one comes really soon xxxx

A diet?! Oh my goodness! The Dr that diagnosed me told me that... I switched Drs, multiple times(because of moves and other things) and never heard that again. If a Dr told me that, you better believe I would be GONE! I'm not stupid, I know I am overweight. But a diet doesn't work on it's own when you have PCOS. Sheesh.

I am not sure how this month went. I had a good follicle and high estrogen last Tuesday. But no positive OPK. I go this morning for a progesterone check to see if it shows ovulation.

Good luck this month! I hope you have good news soon!

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. My cycles have always been irregular, but I haven't had a cycle since May, so I met with my new OB who was totally understanding and he diagnosed me with PCOS. I was afraid he was going to tell me that there was nothing he could do until I lost some weight, but he didn't. He prescribed me medroxyprogesterone to get my period started. But so far nothing. He said after taking a 10 mg twice a day for a week, I should have my period, and well its been a week since I took it, I'm not sure how long I should wait till I call his office to let them know it didn't work.
The plan was for me to take the meds to get my period, and once I got my period he would prescribe me clomid to help me ovulate.
This is definitely been a very frustrating journey, and its nice to finally get some answers. Years ago I met with an OB who told me the only way I could ever get pregnant was if I lost a lot of weight, because over weight people can't get pregnant. Which really discouraged me. I have been trying to lose weight, but haven't had much luck.
Its really nice to know that there is other people out there dealing with PCOS, and that I'm not alone.

Jupitor, losing weight *can* help, but it doesn't always. There are plenty of women who are thin with PCOS who still don't ovulate.

I am not sure about the medicine. I took meds with my second the cycle I got pregnant, but I think it was provera? I remember it was 10 days after my last pill before I got my period.

Hello Gals!! I also have PCOS and am very thin!! So makes me even more confused about insulin and all that stuff. Dr. said there are no cysts but just non balanced hormones... :( TTC since may of this year but all ready feel like I am giving up... Just a little frustrated. DR. said to do OPKS for three months until I had a positive. Meanwhile my OPKS are positive every other day... :-/ ughh baby dust!!

wifey, now THAT is surprising. PCOS women OFTEN get false positive OPKs. Like it is a completely unreliable way to tell if you ovulate. I actually never got a positive OPK, with like 2+weeks of taking them(mostly twice a day) and I ovulated, and got pregnant. Like I said, totally unreliable.

Is your Dr checking your blood work or anything?

The majority of Drs have you TTC for one year before they do anything. However, you have PCOS. In my honest opinion, that is bull when you have a disorder/disease/syndrome/REASON why it makes things hard.

I have two kiddos already, a 7 year old(born on my 19th birthday) and a 3 and a half year old. It took us two years to have our 3 year old, a year before the Dr would talk meds, then I switched Drs and it was another 6 months before my hormones and cysts got under control. Then 6 cycles of clomid, two cycles at each dose. FINALLY I was sent to an R.E. and we did one cycle of 10 days of clomid, 150 mg, and that did it.

This time I am living back in NY(we were in WV cause of my hubby's old job) and it has been WAY better. First off, I just had my IUD out in September. Because it took two months for my cycle to even start and I didn't ovulate in that time, my Dr sent me right to the R.E. And then the R.E. started me right at the dose I used to get pregnant with my son. And, bam, pregnant again.

If you have PCOS, chances are you will not be ovulating on your own. So Drs making you wait is just mean. Then, when you do try clomid, make sure they do mid month monitoring. If you don't ovulate, then it is mean to make you do the same dose again. I did 6 cycles and never ovulated on my own. It was such a waste of time.

Sorry this got so long. I get so frustrated with Drs.

After not having AF for over 7 months, she finally arrived with the help of medroxyprogesterone. If we weren't ttc I wouldn't care if AF ever came back lol My cycle was a bit longer then it would have been with out the help of meds, but oh well. Since I got my period, I started my first round of clomid. cd's 4-8. I've read that OPK's don't work for people with PCOS, so how will I know if I've ovulated? However I was looking up charts on fertility friend and some ladies with PCOS got positive OPK's. Is there a certain kind that do work?
