Seriously....these LH ovulation tests are confusing!

I need help! So...in a previous post i mentioned that i just started using ovulation test strips for the first time. As soon as i received them i started doing 1 a day. I have now taken 4 tests. I am on cycle day 11 and according to my predicted ovulation date based on my cycle length (26 days-very regular) and my assumed luteal phase...i am due to ovulate on the 8th. I am only doing these tests to see when i actually ovulate...in case there is actually a slight difference i have been missing. Ok so anyway....the first 3 tests the 2nd line was lighter than the control line but seemed to get darker with each day. Today i took a test, and the test line took longer to appear than previous days. I almost thought it was going to stay blank....which would have meant i already ovulated??? How the hell do you tell on these things? Is it normal for it to get darker toward ov date and then lighten again or not appear at all after ovulation? AF started on June 36th and ended for me on July 3rd.....so IF i did ovulate already.....my guess is it happened yesterday since that day was the darkest test line and the closest in color to the control line. But....if that is the case, that would mean i ovulated on cycle day 10...just 2 days after AF stopped...is that even possible???

Has anyone been as confused by these things as i am? If you test AFTER you ovulated, would there be no line at all, or does it get lighter?? I plan on taking another test later today to see if there is any difference. I did drink a ton of water right before testing which made me have to go...but i dont know if something like that affects the test.

I am going to be upset if i missed another month of potentially conceiving since this would mean that i only BD once the day right before ov...if i did ov that is. Ugh...

I have been doing the same...taping them up on a sheet where i am tracking by cycle day and calendar day. I did take another test this afternoon and it was a but darker so i am thinking the morning one was a fluke...or lighter because i had so much water not long before. So...now i am thinking i may not have ovulated yet. Just gona keep testing and keeping logged to compare darkness. Good luck to you!

I'm in the same boat! I have used them a few times but never seemed to have good luck with them. I have read that it's best to take your readings between 10 am and 2 pm, and to avoid drinking fluids for a couple hours before doing it. I try to avoid drinking anything in the morning after breakfast and test around 10:30 or 11.

Anyhow, this last cycle, I also had the line getting gradually darker, and then it disappeared, but then was back and darker than the control line the next day. So, keep testing! It could have been because you drank too much water too.

What I found really confusing is that according to my BBT, I ovulated on CD 12, but according to the OPK, it would have been on CD 14 or 15. I have been relying on the BBT for the last 20 or so cycles and no BFP whatsoever, so maybe I've been missing the window by stopping BDing too early. So frustrating...

I've heard that the more expensive OPKs with the smiley face are easier to use. I can't justify the cost though - we're going to just BD more!

Northernbabydream....same here. I cant justify the more expensive tests either. I use the LH test strips that come 50 a pack on amazon. They are supposed to be very accurate, like 99% so i will def keep on testing. I agree it must have been the water i drank right before because i tested again later today and it was back to being a like as dark as yesterdays...so, i will continue to test and be sure not to drink a bunch right before.

Also need to bd more, which i planned on doing every day or at least every other day from the 4th thru the 9th. Thing is, it is tougher this time than with my first because my toddler tires me out! I am just not as in the mood and awake as i was when we ttc the first. We literally bd every other day all month long...so there was really no chance at missing my fertile period. The only thing i tracked that time was my menstrual cycle and predicted fertile period, but i never used opks or bbt testing before.

Best bet is to just try to bd every other day of the month so you dont miss your fertile period if you are off on your guestimated ov date, or the opk is confusing. I should just go back to that method.....

Good luck all!!

Hey gals! I used the Answer brand and I liked them - they seemed to work rather well. I bought the 20 pack kit and started the day after AF, so CD8. You can check my images and see how the lines progressed from nothing, to light, to dark (positive). The only thing that bugged me was the 5 days of positives, although not the test's fault.

I also took them at different times, but always after work (5pm) and I must say, I liked this brand better than the generic versions you can buy at your local store. I should also mention this were the test stripes, not the sticks, which I bought before and didn't work at all. I think I paid about $14.

I've heard good reviews of the OPKs you can get on Amazon, I might try those next month or continue with Answer.

I also struggle with BDing b/c even though we plan to do it like crazy, so these OPKs helped me identify the best days, although the positives drove me crazy trying to figure out if we missed the window or not. Next month I am going to trying temping so I can be sure that I DID ovulate!

That's what we're trying to do too, just BDing every second day when I think I'm most fertile. Frankly though, it gets tiring when you "have" to do it! Who knew that making a baby would be such hard work! No way we could do it every day, and apparently that's not good for ttc anyhow.

I know! It is hard work! Youd think it would just be easy to fet pregnant but all that goes into timing and the chance every month even if everything is timed perfectly, is not high. Havent even been using these opks long...but i already wana say F it and just play it safe, bd every other day my whole cycle LOL

Well good luck to all of you ladies!!
