Will ovarian cyst cause missed period? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated
I was in the hospital last night. I had gone to urgent care with lower right abdominal pain and they sent me to ER for cat scan. I had that done as well as ultrasound. I had already been 5 days late for my period.
As it turns out during our first month TTC they found a cyst on my ovary that is approximately 5cm big. All pregnancy tests came back negative as well.
Could this be the cause of my period being late?
I don't know if I missed LH surge because of an error on timing of tests, but I didn't get a positive OPK this month.
I don't think it will show up at all this cycle.
If any of you ladies have any experience with this please reply or personally message me.
I've never had one before and I am really scared for when it might burst.
Should we stop trying to conceive until it's completely gone?

I have had an ovarian cyst in my ovary that ruptured causing excruciating pain throughout my entire lower abdomen for about 72 hours. The good news, it's a very common issue many woman have experienced/ are experiencing. Also, if it bursts, you don't need any surgery, it will go through your system naturally. Although the cyst did not cause me to miss a period, my doctor has told me it could. A cyst should not affect your chances of getting pregnant, however a ruptured cyst can damage the tissue in the ovary, but we have 2 ovaries so infertility is less likely. I know a person who has a cyst in her ovary that hasn't ruptured and she's had 2 perfectly healthy children all with the cyst being in her ovary. You should go see your doctor and find out what caused the cyst as it could be a hormonal factor. Some hormonal imbalances can cause infertility so it wouldn't hurt to see your Obgyn and have her check your hormone levels. Good luck! Hope things turn out for the best!
