Honestly, you don't really need a special basal thermometer unless you're going to temp vaginally. I rushed out and bought a basal thermometer when I first started TTC 5-6 years ago and it is now sitting in a box in the closet. I just use a regular digital thermometer and it works fine. The only difference between the two, really, is that the basal one reads to the hundredths and the regular only reads to the tenths place. You don't need to chart BBT to the hundredths place. It just makes the chart messier and more confusing.
