bbt - is a way to study your cycles retrospectively. you are supposed to chart for several months to find out when and whether you ovulate. you take your basal temp every day and save it in the chart and evaluate it when the next period comes.
opk - tests lh hormone, which releases the egg before ovulation. the surge starts 24-48 hours before ovulation, so when you get a positive it means - provided there is a mature follicle - it shall be released in a day or two, and it is high time to bd.
women with regular 28 day cycles normally ovulate between cd 12 and 18, so are advised to use opk beginning with cd 9/10.
yet none of these can confirm that you ovulate - for that a sonogram and blood tests (fsh, lh at the cycle start and progesterone on day 21) are needed. if you failed to conceive in 3 years you should see your obgyn.

When bbt it has to be at the same time every day even weekends, put it in arms reach so you don't have sit up and get it as this will rise ur temp, so you reach out for it, stick it under your tongue then once it's done then u can move, log it straight away or write it down so u don't forget,
For using opks best time to test is between 2pm and 8pm, don't drink too much b4
testing and hold ur wee for as long as you can b4 taking the test, the second line must be as dark or darker than the control line to be positive
