Question

Can dating scans ever be significantly inaccurate? Can a healthy fetus develop slower than normal?

My last menstrual period started on May 31st. I know I ovulated the week of June 26th.

So by a doctor's dating (two weeks before ovulation), I'd be due around March 30th and about 16 weeks. I've been showing obviously (as in my coworkers finally just said we know you're pregnant) for about two weeks (second baby). And I felt the first flutters about a week ago. This morning, while lying on my back in bed, my uterus is clearly visible and nearly at my belly button. All of this would make sense at 16 weeks.

But my dating scan at "6 weeks," has my due date at April 12th, meaning I should only be 13 weeks pregnant right now. And a scan at "8 weeks" measured me even FURTHER BEHIND, by an ENTIRE WEEK. I couldn't even hide it through my first trimester? Does that sound right? Could the fetus have been growing slowly from day one and is just working on catching up? Experience please! :/

Also, my HcG levels were actually high.

How do you know when you ovulated? Maybe you ovulated much later than what you thought... either way, sounds like you should get a new doctor because that's all very confusing and conflicting.

My dr has always told me that there can be a "sway" with the measurements of up to a week either way

@mrsblueeyes

Thanks for answering! I'm not totally sure of the exact date I ovulated, but I do have pretty obvious cervical mucous changes around ovulation. So.. I've got a pretty good idea, but not exact.

However, the real issue is that the only dates I possibly could've conceived are June 23rd, July 2nd, or August 6th. And NONE of those conception dates match up with an April 12th due date! Haha! So I've honestly been going back and forth between totally confused and super worried.

I did fail to mention in my original question that I do have a severely retroverted partial bicornuate uterus, so I'm hoping that this next ultrasound will give me some better answers now that my uterus is clearly out of my pelvis area. And yes, this ultrasound is being scheduled with my new doctor. Definitely. :)
