Second time this month for brown spotting, but no actual blood. What is happening?

My last real cycle was July 17-20th. Normal, nothing unexpected. My husband and I are newly TTC. August rolls around and a million pee sticks later with all negs, I started spotting brown cm on the 15th- 18th. Around the time my cycle should have been. Now its still August, (30th) and today I started this brown spotting again. Ran to the store to get a test- still neg. Anyone have this happen or any helpful insight?
