Question

When should I go to the doctor for a blood test? How long until I get my results?

I am 5 days late and gave taken a HPT every morning that I have been late. They have all been negative. I am rarely late, and have never been 5 days late before. During the tww, I have been very nauseous and dizzy. I developed a very uncomfortable UTI 2 days before my expected period. I have had very little cramping. My boobs are very sore, and they are really perky and round. I have been having lots of CM which is out of the norm from me, as I do t get any before AF. The last few days I burst I to tears for no reason, and I have very grumpy. I feel terrible for my husband. I've read that some women have to wait weeks before they get a BFP. I'm wondering when I should go to the doctor for a blood test. Also, I've read you need to go twice? How quickly would I get my results? Can you get a false negative e with blood tests? Thanks so much for reading and for your comments.

Hi there,

I'm in the SAME boat as you except I am 7 days late today. I had blood drawn the day after my missed period and it was negative, but from what I was told it may have been too early. This happened to me in a previous pregnancy as well and I didn't test positive until I was 7 weeks!! So don't give up hope :)

What are all of your symptoms? Did you have any IB ??

I personally wouldn't have a blood test to confirm what at home pregnancy tests are already telling me unless I got a positive test. And only then if I were concerned about a possible loss.

By the time you have enough hCG to show positive on a blood test you'd be able to get a positive at home test in the next 2 days or so if you used a more sensitive test such as a First Response Early Results. So, for me, it wouldn't be worth it to have a blood test done to *maybe* save myself a day or two of waiting to find out. Especially considering most labs/doctor's offices won't give you results the same day. I've had blood work results take a week before and you'd definitely know by then if you were testing at home.

But that's just me. You have to do what is right for you.

Best of luck.
