Question

Who should I make an appointment with???

I just found out that I am pregnant with my first baby and I'm confused as to who I make an appointment with. I'm seeing on some websites that I make one with my Primary care doctor. I always thought I should go straight to my OB/GYN. Which is the right choice????

It really just depends on how things work in ur country. In Canada, we have to see our Dr first, then he/she has all the initial blood work done and sends a referral (change of care) with said bw to the OB of our choosing. After that, it's all OB care til after the 6wk postpartum checkup. U could call ur OB and see what route they'd like u to take...u may get to bypass seeing ur GP completely.
Congrats! =))

You should make an appointment with your OB/GYN. Yes, some primary care doctors handle the first part of pregnancy in cases where there is no reason to assume the patient will be high risk. But a lot won't. It isn't their field of expertise and they'll generally refer you to an OB/GYN. They may still see you for the first appointment where they just cover the basic dos and don'ts and some general information on what to expect while you wait to see your OB/GYN but that's about it.

I'd absolutely start with the OB/GYN.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months.

Also, there is a sister site called countdownMYpregnancy.com that you may find useful. Same people that run this site just, ya know, the pregnancy version.
