Positive ovulation test yesterday, negative today

My period is due on the 2nd so my positive test was 8 days before af is due, I did another test today and it was negative so does it look like I've had a late ovulation? Someone said you're body can give off the same hormones before your period as the ones given off during ovulation and cause you to have a positive test, but wouldn't I have continued to have positive tests up until af if this was the case?
