I was on depo for very long time and was told its very unlikely to get pregnant

A very close girlfriend of mine was on the Depo shot for 10 years. When she turned 30 she decided to switch to the pill so that if/when she decided to start TTC the shot would be out of her system. Her doctor gave her a prescription the pill and told her to start the pill on the return of her 1st period post-depo (she didn't have a period while on the shot)... her period never came and she ended up getting pregnant before her period came back- her doctor told her that is very rare, but it can happen.
