How common is period like bleeding? Thought I had period and now BFP

I'm utterly confused. Last month we were trying for baby number 2. I had my LH surge on day 17 of my cycle, on day 31 of my cycle I started having spotting and the next day heavy clotting like bleeding. Which isn't abnormal for me with my period, but then the following days were much lighter than my usual period but still within range. Well, yesterday I realized my breasts felt heavier than normal and I was feeling exhausted. The last time I felt this tired was when I was pregnant with my daughter. I decided to take a test thinking it was of course negative - but it came back faint positive. I am just so confused. I guess I would be day 39 of my cycle now? My hcg quant taken last night was low - 18. Going back tomorrow for another blood test and just have to wait and see if early miscarriage or pregnancy. Has this happened to you?
