Question

HSG test painful? Can anyone compare to Colposcopy?

I'm scheduling my HSG test hopefully for next week after AF ends. I've heard very mixed reviews with some saying painless and some saying excruciatingly painful so I'm not sure what to expect! Perhaps best if I don't know, lol.

Any feedback is appreciated but especially if you've had a Colposcopy before as that was by far one of the most painful experiences of my life (clearly I've never delivered a baby!). The Colposcopy was painful during and after then had terrible "leaking" for a week.

Should I plan to take the rest of the day off work? What about the following day? I'm sure everyone is different but trying to anticipate how much time off I should take and what to expect overall.

Thank you!

I just had my hsg last week, and just so happen to have had a colposcopy for abnormal cells on my cervix. The hsg I think was a little less worse for me. It was super uncomfortable at first, you could feel a warm sensation or feeling in be pelvic and abdomen area, I'm assuming it's the dye going through the lady parts. For a total of about 1 minute it was very painful. The dr said he had a harder time getting the dye through my right tube, hence the reason for the severe pain. I would take something an hour or so before. It was definately bareable....

I went to work right after the procedure... when it is over, it's literally over. I didn't have much pain through the day. A little bit of spotting for a couple days. It has completely messed up my cycle this month. They say it wont, but it has. I have charted and used opks for over 2 years, so I know. I am cd 19 and still no positve opk, I've had no fertile cm this month and my temps are crazee. Just an fyi....

Thanks for sharing your experience, millbarnett! I'm glad to hear it was bearable and that you could return to work the same day. Unfortunately the earliest appointment I could get was Mon. Feb. 15th which will be CD12 for me; the nurse said that is the latest in a cycle they will perform the HSG. I made arrangements to be off that day but can work from home if I'm feeling fine; it will be nice to not have to go into the office if I'm uncomfortable. I just remember the Colposcopy being so painful that tears were streaming down my cheeks even though I wasn't actually crying, I just couldn't bear the pain! It also lasted so much longer than it sounds like the HSG. Sucks to hear that it messes with your cycle though...I feel like the one thing I had going for me was a very regular cycle and then I started Clomid and it's far less predictable :( Best of luck and baby dust to you!
