Question

Venting...sorry. Hope it all just hormone related.

Meet with fertility doc this month for first time.
HSG was scheduled and apparently I didnt listen well to the instructions and we couldn't complete the test as we'd BD'd 3 days earlier...ugh.
DH was supposed to do a SA but he couldnt deliver under stress. This office is an hour away from us so the timing was PERFECT... but he couldnt do it.
So they still had me start clomid, I get a midcycle U/S on Friday and if my eggs are ready an ovidril shot too.
In the mean time I am frustrated about every thing crying for nothing and we haven't even had a possible OD to BD for! UGH!!!!
And I guess I do have a question: how do the opk work? How often do you use them? What do they actually tell you? Wont know if I need to use them until Friday but thought I'd try and get some preliminary info.
Yeah, really hope this is all hormone related.

Sounds like a stressful day, I'm sorry. II have not done infertility treatment but I am familiar with opk's. I used opks daily at around 11am each day starting on CD8 (I usually Ovulate around CD 14 so started early just in case I OV'd early). They say not to use FMU. When the test line becomes as dark as or darker than the control line then the test is positive and you should ovulate in the next 24-48 hours. The egg is only good for a short time so once you have a good idea of when you will ovulate it is a good idea to Bd before the opk turns positive so that sperm are waiting for the egg. I Bd a couple days before an expected positive opk and the day of. I am 8 weeks pregnant so it worked for me! Good luck!! xx

Same for me - only familiar with OPKs. My cycle length is usually between 17-29 days so I also start testing on CD8. I test twice a day - late morning (SMU or TMU but NOT FMU!) and again in the afternoon around 4.30pm. Once the colour is the same or darker then it is positive. I have also started using Clear Blue dual digital ovulation sticks - they they give you a flashing smiley when you are High fertility (start BDing!!) and a solid smiley when you are at Peak (most important BDing 2 days!!)- which stays on the screen for 48 hours. You do not need to test again after that. I've used both this cycle and although my OPK picked up the surge, I think the Clear Blue missed it. However last cycle, the Clear Blue picked it up and the OPKs didn't! I also use temping to confirm ovulation has happened. A sustained temp rise over 3 days confirms. You can PM me if you have any questions! Good luck, and I hope you feel less stressed soon! xx

I'm sorry this is stressful. I've been through lots of fertility treatments and we are working on baby #3 now.

If you are going for a mid-cycle scan then don't stress out about the OPK's. You will not need them. The doctor will look and see if follicles are ready and it sounds like they will trigger your ovulation. We are asked asked to BD on the night of the trigger and the 2 nights after that to cover all our bases. I then have a blood test for progesterone on cycle day 21 to make sure ovulation happened and that the hormone levels are high enough to sustain a pregnancy. Then...we wait.

TTC #3 PCOS, 2 C-Sections. First was a surprise after all those meds, second came along with help from Femara. Femara and a 5,000 hcg trigger this cycle.

Thanks friends for your responses. Some days I feel like a tiny little isolated island in the middle of the giant ocean....

So... u/s at the dr office Friday indicated I had 3 eggs almost mature. So my trigger shot is tonight and then timed BD. DH better not balk at it this time. I will start daily progesterone on Wednesday...then TTW!

I feel like I am already in the TTW cause its all "waiting".

Oh, and we got an interesting article at church today saying we as Christians should be patient with infertility, that any sort of ART is not the plan of God.... Obviously it was written by an old man who has probably had a few kids (and grandkids by now) and has no sympathy for those with challenged reproduction issues. smh.
