Question

No Heartbeat at 7-8 wk scan!! PLS HELP!!!!

I'm really scared and confused, pleased can anyone reassure or shed any light on whats happening?
4 Nov LMP, 20 &21 Nov ovulation. I had my 1st scan on 16 Dec due to history of ectopic and they saw a gestational sac 1.5mm so she said I was really early. 4 Jan was my 2nd scan which i would say i was 7-8wks, they saw a sac measuring 5mm and fetal pole this time but no HB. She suggested i had miscarried but to come back next wk for re-scan. I always have internal scans because i have a retroverted uterus so difficult to scan. Could she have missed the HB?? Im scared and confused and feel i can't wait a wk to know and can't stop crying. I still feel preg, don't have any spotting or cramping and have bad morning sickness. The 5 mm measurement would suggest 6.5 wks and my dates suggest 8, so means the baby died 2 wks ago so my hormones should have dropped? should there be a HB, fetal age is 5-6 and gest age 7-8? which one is right for HB age? Has anyone had similar and can help me?? TI

Have you had any Beta levels done? That can tell you a lot. They must have confidence that they will find a heart beat. You may need a d&c to remove everything to get your Hcg levels back down if it was a miscarriage. I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle at 6 w3d and it has taken me over 2 weeks to get my Hcg down below 20. That's with no d&c.

Regardless it's all scary. I'll be thinking of you. And hoping everything is all good.

Thank you. No I haven't had any blood or Beta tests done this time.

Hi, I have no experience in this but my sister did go through something similar. In her case the beta values helped as she could see that her hcg was not doubling or rising as it should and she had to go for a d & c. I was wondering in your case, if it is possible that it was just too early for the heartbeat? How do you know you ovulated on Nov 21? Maybe you ovulated a bit later or had a late implanter. In which case the baby could be only 6.5 weeks. I really hope it is good news for you and you can detect the heartbeat next time. Do prepare yourself mentally just incase it is not good news. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! Good luck!

hi Anastasia999, thank you for your thoughts. I know the exact dates of ovulation because I was using a fertility monitor. i didn't get a positive PT until 14 DPO, which I think is quite late on. Same with my 1st sucessful pregnancy. I don't know anything about late implantation, does this happen? could it take 7 days?

Implantation usually takes 6-12 days . Best of luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! Also surprised they didn't consider testing your hcg levels ...

pity they did not draw your bloods, seeing if hcg is rising or not would give a clear answer
if the sac only measures 5mm then no wonder there is no hb - normally one does not even see a fetal pole before the sac is 15-20mm in diameter
one only sees the hb when the fetal pole (not the sac) is 5mm crl
