Question

Is Terazole safe 4DPO?

my husband and I conceived on Friday the 20th and the very next day I developed the worst yeast infection. Monistat isn't working so I called my gyn and he nurse called in Terazole for me. I haven't used it yet but read bad things about it including birth defects risk. I clearly don't know if I'm pregnant, has anyone used this before? Thanks

Hi Christie,
to my knowledge, Terazol is commonly prescribed in pregnancy; usually for 7 days, sometimes 3. Your doc could make an easy case that not treating the infection is certainly far worse than giving you the medication. IMO, it's better to take the meds, get better, and get rid of the infection rather than being on any medications for prolonged periods of time for an infection that lingers. I know the package insert is scary, but for your reassurance, try chatting with the pharmacist that filled it, or give your OB/gyn's nurse a ring back! It's always better to call and make sure.

You might want to consider other things to help clear the infection -- wear cotton underwear, dry yourself completely after showering, avoid douches/fragranced soaps and washes (including laundry detergent).

At 4DPO you can't be certain that you conceived and more importantly, implantation hasn't even happened yet if you did. Get rid of the infection and then see how the rest of the cycle goes.
