Question

Does IVF egg retrieval hurt?

I'm about 50 pounds overweight and was told by the anesthesiologist that I won't have as much pain medication as thinner women. Can anyone relate and did you feel pain from it?

I did IVF 3 times, neither overweight nor underweight. It was not painful at all for me. The bloating because of multiple follicles is way more uncomfortable than the actual egg retrieval.

I was maybe 20lbs overweight for my 3 retrievals but I don't think that had anything to do with it. It really depends on how stimulated your ovaries get and how many eggs there are. More eggs means they have to stick the needle through the vaginal wall more times which makes you more sore. My first retrieval I barely felt any pain but only retrieved 13 eggs. My second I had 23 eggs and my third I had 24 eggs. Boy on those 2nd and 3rd rounds I was hurting! I started getting very sore and uncomfortable about 3-4 days before retrieval and afterwards I was couch or bed ridden for 2-3 days. My ovaries were the size of grapefruits (normally they are walnut size). I even asked for narcotics after those two instead of just ibuprofen.
