Question

Positive OPK, Fertile CM, Breastfeeding and no period

I'm still breastfeeding my 15 month old and haven't had a post partum period yet. for a week I was having painful nursing and a lot of fertile CM (I mean a LOT). The nipple pain was different from a bad latch or teething so I took an OPK and a pregnancy test to rule those out. The OPK came back positive as soon as I set it down.
I'm 17 dpo and nothing. No positive pregnancy test and no period.
I had cramping and spotting at 6 to 8 dpo.
Too early to test?

Pre-pregnancy my luteal phase was 16 - 18 days.

It's possible that you had a surge, but never ovulated.

wouldn't that mean I should be getting a period? Or not until I actually release an egg.

You wouldn't necessarily get a period, especially if you're bf'ing. You might want to start temping if you're getting at least three consecutive hours of sleep. That'll give a much more accurate idea of what's going on with ovulation. Most hpt's would be able to give you a bfp by 17 dpo. I know there are always exceptions. I wish you luck in whichever outcome you hope for. :)
