Gaining 5pds is not bad. Is this your 1st pregnancy? Under tools & tickers you can calculate how much you should gain during your pregnancy. I had gained 10 pounds by 3 months. I ended up gaining 25 pounds with all my pregnancies.

Early on it's just bloating, the prsometimes increased appetite. I felt huge early on and bought maternity jeans at 8 weeks, wore them til 10-11 weeks, then the bloat went down and I put the maternity jeans away til about 5 months. I gained weight early, about 6 lbs, but then it leveled out and didn't change much until like 6 months. I was up 13 lbs at 34 weeks and then lost weight til I was up only 8 lbs at delivery.

That's supposed to say "the progesterone and sometimes increased appetite" (that's what you get when you type left handed while breastfeeding!). I was on progesterone too through the 1st trimester. Everybody gains weight differently and not everyone follows the normal pattern.

Second pregnancy. I was already overweight with my first and since I have lost about 40 lbs so now I am self conscious about gaining so much so fast. I have noticed that it can fluctuate to a degree so bloat mkea sense
