Question

Clomid even though i ovulate on my own

Wondering if anyone has been put on clomid, despite the fact you have normal ovulation. I have unexplained fertility, and my fs wants to put me on clomid.

I have been temping for a long time, which confirms I ovulate on my own. I've also had 3 cycles of cycle monitoring at the clinic, where my lining and follicle size looks textbook, my lh surge is textbook, and i had an HSG, tubes are clear.

Next step is clomid on its own, and if that doesn't work, clomid and IUI. Anyways, just a little hesitant to start clomid, since i've read it can cause cysts, thin the lining and dry up cm, so I'm having a difficult time seeing its benefits.

Any success stories out there. thanks!

Not sure why they would jump to clomid when they've confirmed that you are ovulating. Seems like a waste of time to me. Has your partner been tested? Maybe the issue is on his end? I wasn't ovulating due to PCOS, went through 7 rounds of clomid and THEN found out my DH had a very low count on top of my PCOS and I wasted all that time trying clomid. Wouldn't want that to happen to you too!

I was put on clomid and I O'd on my own every cycle. It's to help improve egg quality and boost hormone levels. They usually start u at 50mg, which is pretty low, so it shouldn't impact ur lining and cm too much...at least not with the first cycle. It's usually the higher doses and/or amount of cycles it's taken for that u start seeing the negative effects. If ur worried about ur cm, add an additional supplement of evening primrose oil or borage seed oil to ur daily regimen, and make sure u have some pre-seed on hand.

I used it in 2013, did 5 rounds and got my BFP after 18 months of not even a hint of a line on my hpt's (beautiful hormone levels, clear HSG and great #'s for hubs) yet it took drugs and 1.5yrs of trying. I say go for it. Worst case, u dont like it and dont use it again.

Good luck! =))

Hubby has super sperm, we've both been tested, and everything is good to go, so not sure why we're not getting pregnant, from what they've tested, theres nothing wrong on both ends

@dakotagurrl, your experience is reassuring, I have the prescription, just wondering if I'll take it this cycle. Did you have any side effects? And congrats on your bfp :)

I was put on Clomid even though I ovulate regularly. I asked my obgyn why she wanted to put me on Clomid when I ovulate regularly. She said studies have shown that Clomid improves the chances of couples conceiving where the woman ovulates regularly by 5-7%. So while it's not as significant an aid as it is for women who don't ovulate regularly, it helps a little bit. And every little bit helps!

Oh thank u! That BFP is almost 10 months old now...been working on another since Oct/14.
I didnt have any s/e as far as headaches etc, but after about 3 rounds, my cm was all but gone and my lining got really thin. Those were 2 cycles @100mg & 1 @100/150mg mix. Round 4 was 150mg and round 5 was 150mg w/ an estriol supplement taken from CD8 to 3dpo to plump up the lining again. It worked!
For this ttc journey, I did 2 rounds at 150mg, which turned me into a complete c*nt...I did not handle the increase in hormones well at all, so I didn't continue it after 2 tries. Instead, I started tamoxifen and got a BFP first round. That ended up being a chemical a week later, but the BFP was there, lining was thick, cm was beyond plentiful and I didnt turn into dragonlady. U could do some research on that as well, maybe ur dr will give u a script for that. The success rates are comparable to clomid.
Sorry for the life history lol! =))

Throwing my two cents in here... I had two miscarriages... one at 4w4d and one at 4w1d, so both super early. I ovulate on my own but my doctor suggested I try Clomid 50mg to see if it improved my ovulation...the very first cycle I took it, I got my BFP and I am currently 5w2d and things are looking good so far. I did not have any side effects from the Clomid. Doc put me on progesterone gel as a precaution after I got my BFP, and I have my first ultrasound in 1 week. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your stories! It's very comforting the success and ease your experience with clomid have been. I'm waiting for CD 3 and have decided to give it a try this cycle :)
