Low Vitamin D and conceiving?
My vitamin D level as of last week is 21. This is below normal. My OBGYN recently didn't see any reason to check it, but my podiatrist (I have a foot injury) suggested that we check as it can affect bone pain. So it is looks like I am low. I do take prenatal vitamins every day, but apparently that is not enough.
After I got the call from the dr's assistant, I started looking up whether low Vit D could affect my ability of conceive (besides my age - about to turn 40). My OBGYN is willing to refer me to a reproductive endocrinologist but we're not quite ready for that yet. Thinking about it.
Also wondering if other things should be checked also.

Vit d deficiency is linked to Infertility, take a 2,000 IU supplement. Prenatal vit doesn't contain enough vit d. I would also take additional folic acid (800 mcg in addition to what's in your PNV.). At age 40 I wouldn't delay seeing a specialist + doing appropriate testing. Best to you.

My vitamin D has always been low. I have to take 15,000 iu a day, and that puts me at just above normal. I have an autoimmune disease as well, and was told by the endocrinologist I see that it can affect many things- bone pain like you said, low D can also cause depression, and can interfere with fertility.
Honestly, I would just take as much as you need to get to "normal". It COULD help you conceive, but it may also just make you feel better. There's no harm in trying it, and it's fairly cheap!
Good luck!

Thanks! I have been prescribed a huge amount of vit D as of today (and already took it) . . . and now we are wondering about my husband's vit D levels as well. I do need to contact my pcp as well as my ob to see what they think. My ob had told me that my prenatals contained plenty of everything that I really need. Huh.
Should the Vit D make one extremely bloated? I also expect my period any day now (although hoping to actually be pregnant, but am doubting it.)

An increase in vitamin D is never a bad idea, so if you think hubby may be low, it might benefit you both to start him on it as well. It can affect male fertility, too.
Normally, a prenatal vitamin would supply you with the vitamins and nutrients you need in a day, minus whatever nutrients you are assumed to be receiving from your diet. But if you are severely low, it will never be enough. My prenatal only has 400 IU, and like I said in my PP, I have to take 15,000 IU just to break even.
Vitamin D has never made me feel bloated. And if you're expecting your period, that could definitely be a good sign! I was very bloated when I got my BFP!!
Good luck!
