Question

Flashing smiley but no temp dip? 5 DPO

Hi all! I'm new to this, so bear with me please- I've been stalking boards for the past few months since starting TTC but this is my first post!

So- I'm currently on CD 20, about 5 dpo (based on CB advanced OPK solid smiley, O pains). My temp was a little slow to rise afterward, but it's been high ever since and FF confirmed O on day 17 (I still think it was day 15). I'm SO confused- my temp was the highest it's been today (nothing different at night that would have affected it), and I've been using CB advanced OPKs since after O again (just to make sure I don't have too much LH...also, kind of for the hell of it), and have gotten the empty circle each day until today, when I got a flashing smiley!

I know you can have a secondary estrogen surge during the luteal phase, so I don't think this is TOO crazy, but then why didn't my temperature drop this morning? Am I overanalyzing or would an estrogen surge HAVE to also show a temp dip?

Driving myself nuts! Thanks ladies!

Estrogen is the "cold" hormone and progesterone is the "warm" hormone, so yes, an estrogen surge can lower bbt. (This is often what women mistake as an implantation dip, when it's really just an estrogen surge.) Estrogen also determines cm, so u may get some watery cm Too. don't read too much into temps...

...all temps can tell u is if u ovulated. As long as ur temp after o rose at least .2 degrees and sustained it for at least 3 days, u have ovulated. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Apparently I didn't read ur question correctly...lol! An estrogen surge doesn't have to have a bbt dip. U could be having an lh surge and not an estrogen surge too. Sorry for my idiocy. I need sleep! Lol!

Thanks Burgbrandy!! I didn't know you could have an estrogen surge without a dip- I thought you had to have a dip if your estrogen surged! Phew. I'm pretty sure I did O on day 15 as I happened to have an ultrasound on day 13 and the doctor said "oh, looks like you're about to ovulate!" I hope it's not another LH surge coming!! I have had pretty bad jawline acne after stopping birth control 3 months ago, so I'm praying that doesn't mean PCOS (I've heard PCOS can have multiple LH and estrogen surges). I've always had normal periods before bc--so, we'll see!

Multiple lh surges doesn't mean u automatically have pcos. LH surges during the lp are fairly common. I have a friend who always gets an lh surge halfway through the lp and another surge right before af. This is why it's suggested that u stop using opks after ur first positive so ur not worrying about other surges.

Haha, just saw this 4 months later!! I was pregnant that cycle, actually- but sadly, lost the baby at 9 weeks due to Turner's syndrome. So...obviously my crazy estrogen surge wasn't anything to be worried about :)

Thanks!!
