Metformin question...

Ok so on sept 18th I got prescribed 500mg of metformin a day.
I was good with taking it for about 2 weeks but nothing happened no ovulation or period showed up. So because the side effects were starting to get to me I kept forgetting to take it and low and behold 1 week later I Od and two weeks after that AF showed...

Now I've heard of women taking metformin on just certain cycle days to kick start everything and then some take it all day every day.... My doctor is kinda a nutjob so I kinda wanna figure this out with you guys.
What would you do, considering what happened last cycle?
