Question

Ob VS. Midwife??

Ok I was wondering if anyone has used a midwife before. I found out yesterday at 11 dpo that I'm preggo with my 3rd. Now i'm trying to figure out if I want to have an OB or midwife. My last two I used an OB. I didn't have the greatest experience either time. When it came to delivery both times I had someone other than my dr. deliver. I also found that during both labours things weren't done the way I would have liked. I also found every apt was rushed and non-personal. I guess I'm just wondering if a midwife can give me a better experience or if it's the same.

So I ask all you moms that have used a midwife, did you feel like the experience was what you wanted? Did the midwife you seen every appt deliver the baby? Are they more supportive then an OB?

Please share your thoughts and stories.. I was told midwifes are really busy and spots fill up quickly, so I need to make the choice sooner rather then later.

I think it's really about personal preference. I saw an ob and a midwife with my last pregnancy. Small Dr office with only two Dr's. I preferred my ob because I felt that he was more competent. He was more likely to make the necessary calls and instruct me. This was my second pregnancy too. Not first. My midwife seemed so willing to let me call all the shots that I had to ask for my epidural to be turned down and it took me 40 minutes to push her out. My first only took 20. So my experience was better with an ob. But I do know women who prefer to have a midwife. If anything goes wrong they do have to call the Ob in. I bled more than my midwife thought was ok. She thought my cervix tore which I guess is very rare. My ob got there and said it was something he'd only seen twice in his 20 some odd years practicing. I didn't have a tear. And I had to lay there with my legs splayed open, shaking uncontrollably from a drug they'd given me after a 12 hour induction and a lot of pushing.

I have a midwife and I love her! She's always so supportive and it is so much more personal. I have had 2 babies and she was there the whole time with both births. Always answered any question and never acted like I was a burden or she had better things to do. I highly suggest going with a midwife. Its like having an experienced friend in the room with you. I was much more comfortable with her than any OB :) I don't have anything against OB's, you just have to find the right person for you. Hope this helps!!

I had a midwife with my son, and it was amazing. It's a more personal experience, and they are GAURANTEED to be there when you deliver. My sister in law had an OB throughout her pregnancy, but when it came time to deliver, she got 3 or 4 different people. It was stressful for her because she kept having to explain what was going on to different people every time. With a midwife, she gets to know you over the course of 9 months and is there for you every step of the way. They're more reliable and personable in my opinion.

Ask around if you get a midwife and try to get someone with experience and a good reputation. My midwfe was excellent and she also treated my friend wonderfully when she used her. Ask lots of women around you who they have used
