Question

Purposeful BD?

What is meant by "purposeful intercourse"? I'm 35 and all of the forums suggest seeing a fertility specialist if I have not conceived after 6 months of "purposeful intercourse". I also read that, after age 30, it could take up to 7 months to conceive. Does it mean only BDing during your fertile window while charting BBT and CM?

Oh geez, it can take a year or more to conceive, at any age, its crazy sometimes. Purposeful intercourse would be ur planned sex....making a point to bd during ur fertile window. Sometimes referred to as a "chore", depending on how long u've been ttc lol!

"Up to 7 months?" Wow, lots of us who have taken well over a year (or two or three) to conceive would be amazed by that information ;)

HAHA i wish it only took 7 months LOL, But purposeful BDing is timed intercourse around your fertile window, i told DH the other day that i would never try for another baby again after what trying for our first was like!! Im now 29 and started TTC when i was 26 but we had sperm issues and needed IVF, glad to say I'm now 34 weeks! I wish you all the best!

Thanks everyone for being so helpful! Sometimes I feel so clueless. Why didn't we learn all of this stuff in sex ed??

I was almost 36 when TTC #2. Experts do recommend that you see a Dr after 6 mos if you're 35+ & have been having the "well timed" sex like you mentioned. That's bc if there is a problem, you have less time to "fix it." I remember reading, that on avg, it takes 6-9 mos to conceive at age 35 if no one has fertility issues. But remember, age is just a number! I've had relatives in their early 20s take a couple of yrs to conceive. 75% of women in their mid 30s conceive within a year, so try not to worry about the stereotypes! Gl!

eag923,

Did your Dr. recommend the HSG test because of your age? Would you recommend doing it? We've been purposely BDing for 2 months even though he had his reversal 6 months ago. We're waiting on the results from his semen analysis. I just want to make sure that I'm not having any issues even though I have one child.
