Question

Trying again

I had a mc Friday at 6.3 wks. I went to the doctor today to get my HCG levels retested to make sure they are going down like they're supposed to, and they are. But when we talked about trying again he told my SO and I that we should wait 4-6 months. Is this normal? This is my 4th mc and I was never told to wait this long before.

I miscarried last year at 6.2 weeks and I was told to start trying as soon as the bleeding stopped. It did take another six months to fall though.

Maybe the 6 months was for emotional issues? Try when you are ready xx

I can't see any reason not to try again as soon as you're ready. I was told to wait one cycle after d&c which was probably appropriate and fell pregnant on the very next cycle. I had a natural miscarriage and fell pregnant two weeks later on our first attempt that time too. It depends who you listen to but some stats say its better to wait a couple of cycles and others say it is actually easier to fall pregnant straight after miscarriage. If you feel as though you're well physically and are ready emotionally to try again I would. I know personally I felt 'empty' after my miscarriages and the only thing I wanted was fill that void by ttc ASAP. I have no idea what benefit waiting so long could do to help the situation. I wish you all the best and hope to be voting on your tests very soon.

I am sorry for your loss staceymalk. I think you should ask your doctor why you should wait that long.

I had a missed miscarriage at 9.2 weeks. Before a D & C, my doctor told me that we could try as soon as we are ready. But, at a post-procedure appointment, my doctor told me to wait 1 cycle as my uterus hasn't fully recovered yet - that my uterus won't hold a pregnancy. And he was right - I had an unusually short luteal phase in that cycle which was last month.

I went through a difficult miscarriage last year, after 4 weeks of trying to pass naturally I went for a D&C, was advised after to wait a minimum of 3 months. I never have been very good at listening to gp advice and fell pregnant straight away without even having first period. 9 months later gave birth to a healthy baby boy. All the best x

When I went to the doctor on Monday my levels were down to 29. I have to go again today to make sure they are still going down. This one has been the worst one by far. It's been a LOT more painful. The bleeding has almost stopped but I am still having a lot of pain in the uterus area. I've never had pain like this with any of my other ones. It's been almost a week since it started.
