Question

What to do about a cold in pregnancy?

I am 3.5 weeks pregnant, and have an awful stuffy nose, & a headache (on and off) I am so very tired. I am making sure I am drinking plenty of liquids, and I am not running a fever. Should I go to the doctor? Or is this just normal in pregnancy? Thanks

Colds in pregnancy are very common since your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can take for it, esp during the critical first trimester. Most cold meds are out, but you can use saline nose spray for the congestion and Tylenol if the headaches are bad enough. Just try & rest, drink lots of fluids, and wait for it to run its course. Hot tea (decaf) with honey may make you feel better as well. Congrats & feel better soon!

PS....if u do start running a fever do take the Tylenol (no ibuprofen or Alleve).
