Question

Whats the difference between chemical pregnancy and miscarriage? Need advice. Please help.

I got pregnant last month, positive pregnancy tests, strong symtoms, but left quickly. I got a positive blood test only 12 hcg. One week later hcg 2 (july 29). I estimate I conceived July 3, probably miscarred around July 19-22. Bleeding lasted 2-3 days very light. Is this a misccarriage or chemical pregnancy? What's the difference? It took my doctor almost two weeks to give me my results from the last dray, called today. And they mentioned I should "wait 6 weeks before trying again". What the hell! I've been having sex with my husband since. I've used the bleeding I expereinced as my "period" and have decided to try right away. Why wait? Anyone expereice something similar? Did you wait? Did you get pregnant soon after? I'm due for a period around July 19 or so. Pretty sure I'm not pregnant this month but would like some input. New to TTC. Just got off low hormone pill May 10. Thanks ahead of time.

Technically they are the same thing. Chemical pregnancies normally show up as positive hpts and then end shortly after, normally by the time your period is due. A miscarriage normally takes place after your expected period due date has passed. Like I said, it's a loss either way...only difference is the timing.

Have you had your vitamin D3 levels checked? There is some research that it might help with cp/mc. If it is low they can give you a prescription course or Maybe you could get some and start taking it right away, just the standard dose on the bottle. I can see why your doctor would tell you to wait 6 weeks, it is because they don't really understand what causes cp/mc.

This is my first time TTC and first MC/CP. I've heard about vitamin d and helping with healthy pregnancy. I'm going to get some and start taking it! I already take a prenatal, extra folic acid, calcium, and magnesium... won't hurt to add another one! Thanks.

The same thing happened to me last cycle.... I myself was confused if it was considered a miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy. I really think it's about your HCG numbers and the length of time ( I was at 4w 2days), if your numbers don't double and/or start on the lower side to begin with then I think the doctors consider it a chemical. Ultimately I think it's up to the person..... I don't think I would consider it a miscarriage until I heard a heart beat but everyone is different. By the way my doctor didn't say anything about waiting after the chemical pregnancy but I am in a same sex couple so that could be why. Good luck to you!!!! Baby Dust

I always get confused with the two as well. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I only bleed for a half a day with really horrible cramps. The bleeding came with horrible clots. But I conceived right away. So soon actually my midwife thought I was originally holding twins and lost one. (that was not the case) I was 18 when all of this happen. I know at 18 I did not wait the 6 weeks like my doctor said. I now have a smart beautiful healthy 8 year son. I feel like maybe because I lost so early my body was ready very quickly. I don't know for sure since im not a doctor but good luck and Baby dust!!!!!!!

It was actually about 5 days after my period was due. Either way a loss is a loss....I'm just piccy that it took two weeks to tell me to wait. Obviously its a little to late now. But I've taken a slight step back and to really focus on creating healthy eating habits, taking my vitamins, and really learning my body and when i actually ovluate. I got off the pill in May not really thinking about anything other than I want to get pregnant. A lot actually goes into it. For now, if it happens it happens. I won't be careful but I am also not going to obsess and stress like I have been.

I've had both and am currently seeing a fertility specialist. My last pregnancy was a chemical one - the specialist explained to us that they use the term "Chemical Pregnancy" for a loss that occurs before anything is visible on an ultrasound. The term "clinical loss" (or miscarriage) refers to a loss that happens after the pregnancy can be confirmed by ultrasound.

In my chemical pregnancy, the loss occurred after my period was due (I was three days late when I started spotting).

I had two miscarriages in a row. The first was a blighted ovum and I had a d&c at 10 weeks (where the embryo stops developing so all that can be seen is an empty gestational sac which keeps growing thinking there's a baby inside). I fell pregnant again after waiting one cycle and miscarried naturally at 4 weeks 4days. The same day I miscarried (bled heavily) I had a scan which showed two gestational sacs. If I hadn't had the pregnancy confirmed by super early ultrasound I easily would have thought I had a late period. If the pregnancy hadn't been seen on the ultrasound I'm pretty sure it would have been called a chemical pregnancy. Two weeks later I ovulated (I know all my signs) and conceived on that very cycle! That pregnancy was text book perfect and I had a little girl who is now four. I was very anxious by that stage so I totally get where you're at and feel for you. The suspense can be stupefying! I'm thinking of you.

I had cp last mth. I ovulated on day 12. I chart plus I use fertility monitor. I was at 10 dpo being scanned for my 2 nd stage fertility tests and a small sac was visible on screen so doc said its possible you're already pregnant but not certain. It pained us, but we waited until 13 dpo to test and ta dah we were pregnant!!. So exciting to see the positive and a 2nd test 2 days later confirmed again although my sore boobs confirmed we were defo pregnant. I don't know why but I continued to take my bbt temps all week but I noticed on day 17 my temp dipped drastically. I frantically googled it, it said Possible sign of m/c :( I was so upset that my hubby told me to stop charting. I didn't but sure enough I had the most horrendous heavy bleed for 1 day, very clotty and slimy followed by a little spotting day 2. This cycle I didn't ovulate and got af yesterday after 40 long days and today nothing! So another short AF. Do I need a d&c ? I'm now wondering if it's not come away ? Help p
