Question

Is it more difficult to conceive with only one ovary?

Two months ago, I had large ovarian cysts which caused torsion of one ovary. Ultimately, the ovary and Fallopian tube were removed. Does this mean I am less likely to get pregnant? Are the odds against me?

I think the answer would be: It depends. A study from 1999 concluded that women with one ovary do not, in general, have reduced fertility due to the missing ovary. However, with only one ovary you don't have a backup ovary. And as you have a finite numbers of follicles/eggs available, you might have a shorter life span for your fertility. If you are already at a point where your ovarian reserve has diminished (is 35 +), you might experience reduced fertility. Good luck!

I am in kinda the same situation as you. Although I have both of my ovaries only my left side is connected due to me having a unicornuate uterus. I am seeing a specialist and he feels very confident that we can get pregnant on our own although he has told me it will take me longer than a normal woman in her 30s. Don't give up hope and I am here if you want to talk or vent.

Apparently, the good tube can sometimes reach over to welcome in the egg from the opposite ovary - our bodies are magical!

Most likely won't happen in my case due to severe adhesions. :-(

5 years TTC. Endometriosis and adenomyosis. Surgery. 2 IVFs. No joy. Low ovarian reserve. Is there any real hope? DE IVF = next step. Much higher success rates, but so used to things not working, it's hard to feel too hopeful. Wishing others an easier time.
