Dont strain, the last thing u want is hemorrhoids. Start taking 300-400mg of magnesium/day/everyday from now til u give birth. Magnesium is a natural laxative and if u have low levels (which most ppl do) then u will become constipated...more so with the extra hormones making ur intestines function slower. I had the same problem ur having, mine started pretty much the day after O til af arrived, every cycle. I started 400mg of mag, took it faithfully everyday and havent been constipated since. I started that a year before I got my BFP and am 37wks now. OB approves and it is 110% momma and baby safe. Also wont make ur bowels sluggish or reliant on stimulants. Aim for a high quality mag (glycinate or malate), but if money's an issue then mag oxide will work as well, its just a little harsher on the stomach.
I swear by the stuff and will never stop taking it. Do ur research.
Good luck! =))

My secret is trail mix and coffee (decaf for you- congrats). None of the sulfur coated dried fruit but raisins, cranberries, dates and figs (some low sugar bran cereal). Honestly, I am addicted to this combo because I know if I don't eat it I won't go. I also find that sitting or standing leaning over helps (like standing but leaning on your elbows on a bed for instance). For some reason this position does some magic on my intestines. I agree- DO NOT strain or sit on the porcelain throne this will only cause more probs. Another thing that may work is natural (low sugar) prune jelly on a fiber cracker.
