Question

How long should it take a healthy 19 year old to conceive through at-home insemination?

I will be performing an at-home insemination in about two weeks. What I would like to know is how long should it take me to conceive? My doctor says I am perfectly healthy and fertile but I am becoming increasingly anxious and nervous about not being able to conceive.
It is starting to become a problem as I have awoken in the middle of the night and started crying out of fear and I have not even started ttc yet!

I was pregnant once before at the age of 16 but unfortunately had a miscarriage at 14 weeks pregnant.
What can I do to increase my chances of conceiving this cycle? I started taking a multivitamin, Maca Root supplements, iron, and folic acid around three weeks ago. Is there anything else I could be taking to increase my fertility? Should I be so worried?

Also, has anyone had any luck using the Instead Softcups?

As you can tell, I don't think anyone feels comfortable answering this. For a number of reasons I'm guessing. One being that you are 19 and two being that you are talking about at home insemination without involving a partner. Most ladies on here are TTC with a partner whether it be a life partner or husband and are a good bit older than yourself. I'll be completely honest with you honey. In my opinion, at 19 most girls don't think about at home insemination. Mainly because there is college to think about as well as you have your whole life ahead of you to think about having babies. You will do what you want because you are 19 and it is your body, however I will say this; you have to know what you are doing in order to make insemination at home safe. One wrong move and you can shock your cervix with the syringe and you can die. This is another reason why I say that maybe you might want to wait on TTC. I would HIGHLY recommend getting insemination done at a doctors office.

Fortunately, every woman has the right to decide when she will begin her journey of reproduction. Contrary to your belief, I have been instructed by my doctor in how to perform a home insemination and I am extremely confident in my abilities to perform my insemination correctly. Furthermore, I do not appreciate age discrimination. You are completely entitled to you beliefs, however, I would greatly appreciate it if you would please keep your negative comments to yourself. I believe I have just as much right to utilize this website as a woman who has a partner and is over the age of 30.

Have u had ur iron levels checked? I ask becuz u said ur taking an iron supplement, which is something u can overdose on (esp if its in ur multivitamin) and ur levels are adequate. If they werent tested, I'd drop that one. Better safe than sorry! I would also recommend switching over ur multi to a prenatal, it has more accurate dosing for the vits and minerals u will need while ttc and pregnant. Folic acid is good and maca is a matter of opinion (did nothing for me tbh). How's ur mucus? How personal, eh?! Lol! If its not adequate, so, clear watery or eggwhite consistency, it will slow down/trap/kill sperm...not helpful when ttc. If u wanna increase that, u can look into evening primrose oil or for something stronger, borage seed oil. Ur looking for high GLA content in ur omega-6's, thats whats gonna give ya the good stuff! Lotsa water as well. If u dont wanna go that route, preseed is a sperm-friendly lube, u could use that to neutralize hostile cm then do ur insem.

Softcups are awesome! They are by no means, a guaranty that u will get a BFP, but they are fantastic at keeping the goods up there and undies clean n dry! I used 'em for a year with no such luck, but I did love that I could attempt to make a baby AND grocery shop all at once!! ;)) Def pick those up and try 'em! As for worrying over ur fertility, dont stress it. Ur young and altho one would think it will happen uber quick, thats not always the case nor does it mean something's wrong. Realistically, ur looking at about a year being the norm. Dont stress it before that, even tho its frustrating as hell!

Best of Luck! =))

I wasn't being nasty nor was I being negative. I clearly just showed interest in your well being and safety. Whatever floats your boat, honey. It's not age discrimination, it's the truth. The women on here are mostly older women that are either married or with a life partner. How is that age discrimination? Apparently your age shows by your response to an old pro of TTC trying to give you advice on the question that you made public. Good luck in your journey.

Do NOT listen to mommy2merey! She has NO right to tell you you are too young to conceive, nor does anyone else. Her comments are rude and should be reported because that IS age discrimination.

Now, to answer your question you should relax! I am a mommy of 1 little boy and one on the way so I know it's easier said than done. I fully believe you will conceive soon. Keep your head up! Age does not define how good of a mother you will be.

So me showing concern for her health and safety is me being negative and hateful? She and I have talked via private message and she apologized for thinking I was being rude after I explained my point further. My comment was not rude. I just told her that some women don't feel comfortable chiming in on a younger persons attempt to have a child. That is NOT age descrimination, that is the truth. Like I told her, it is her decision and I also said that I hope that she is going to be safe in her attempts at home insemination. Apparently you're over analyzing way too much and are reading a lot into what I said. As long as she knows what I meant and understands then that is all that matters. I was a mom at 18 and it wasn't easy. I told her that as well. I understand the struggle of a young person having children.

One more thing. I think a lot of people have a problem with hearing the truth from others. Not talking about this young lady, but people in general. Everyone makes their business public but whenever something is said that they don't like, the ones that respond get attacked. I didn't tell her to post a question. She is a grown young woman and can make her own decisions. She has just as much right to be here as the rest of us. In saying this, she made it public and I replied with a truthful and open answer in which I also expressed concern for her safety. Lighten up, lady because it's not that serious.

I agree with you mommy2mercey! You did nothing wrong, everyone can state there opinions on here and she was no being discriminate against age! You all need to lighten up!
