Question

Has anyone been told they were having a miscarriage, but didn't?

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but here's what's going on. I should have been around 5 weeks pregnant, 2 nights ago I went to the hospital because I had some light spotting.. My HCG levels were at 200, my cervix was high and closed, & they couldn't see anything for sure on their ultrasound.. Just a little flicker, the doctor said it's not the best machine plus it would probably be too early for her to see anything. So, they gave me a rhogam shot & scheduled me for more ultrasounds and blood tests the next day.. The doctor had told me I'd need a vaginal ultrasound as they can see early pregnancies better. But when I had my ultrasound they only did the regular ultrasound & didn't end up doing any blood tests. Being upset, I didn't think to ask any questions when they told me I miscarried. I've had barely any bleeding, not even enough to fill a pad and no cramping... I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks before and it was horrible, but this is so different.

I really don't understand why the doctor is so sure you miscarried...it sounds like she is presuming and making excuses for her machine because she isn't sure.you will get a for sure answer with your blood tests and other ultrasounds.if you just had a bit of spotting and no heavy bleeding or pain I would think theres still a chance the baby is alright.hope everything turns out okay for you and the baby!

I had spotting during my early pregnancy, which made me go to the midwife and she said it is quite common and no it is no a miscarriage. I wasn't scanned, presumably it would be to early to tell. When I did have a scan at 8 weeks all was well

They should have done the internal ultrasound. Doesn't sound like a miscarriage. I would call your OB and tell them what happened and ask for an appointment next week.

Wow, that frustrating. If I were you I'd contact my doctor again and insist they do the bloodwork and vaginal ultrasound as recommended. The external ultrasound really can't pick up much before 6 weeks, so I wouldn't take that as a bad sign. The bloodwork will show right away whether your hcg levels are increasing as they should. A slight amount of spotting doesn't sound like a MC. GL!
