Question

Prothrombin gene mutation factor 1

I was just diagnosed with prothrombin gene mutation, yesterday. Its a clotting disorder and will require me to give myself daily shots of anticoagulants from the start of my pregnancy until 6 weeks after birth. I have 2 healthy children but have to have csections. I was just wondering if anyone else has this and how everything went. I am terrified that when I have the csection that I will bleed out and not be able to clot because of the anticoagulant. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Dr said I got lucky with my last 2 pregnancies aand deliveries since we were unaware of my condition. Thanks in advance.

I have 2 blood clotting disorders and will also be on shots daily when pregnant. My first pregnancy we were unaware of my disorders and everything went perfectly. I asked my dr about bleeding issues as well and he told me they will adjust my dosage to make sure that my blood isn't fully anticoagulated (so I can still form a clot when I actually need it) and that they will be able to give me medicine to reverse the Heparin I'll be taking to prevent me from losing too much blood during delivery. Hope that makes you feel some better!

Thank you so much! That made me feel 10X better! So you will be on heparin instead of lovenox? She said she was putting me on lovenox but I would rather be on heparin only because you can get the heparin in a pen...Like its automatic. I hate shots as it is...Even avoid getting my flu shots every year. I cant imagine giving myself a shot every day. I think I can handle the auto ones because they are quick and easy plus you dont actually see the needle.

My dr prefers Heparin but it's 2x a day so that's the sucky part. I'm terrified of needles too but they showed me the little insulin syringes I'll be using and let me stick myself. I have to say it was such a teeny tiny needle it really wasn't so bad. I didn't even feel it. Before that I was honestly considering call it quits on ttc because I didn't think I could do shots every day.
